Ronald Wessling, age 84, of Carroll, unexpectedly passed away on Monday, August 7, 2023 at Spencer Hospital in Spencer, Iowa.
A funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, August 12, 2023 at Holy Spirit Church – St. John Paul II Parish in Carroll. The celebrant will be Fr. Patrick Behm. Music will be by Jane Heithoff. Gift Bearers will be Ron’s grandchildren: Evan, Lauren, and Zach Wessling. Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Carroll with Military Honors conducted by the Carroll American Legion.
Visitation will be held at Holy Spirit Church from 9:30 to 10:15 a.m. on Saturday morning.

Ronald, the son of Rudolph and Irene (Spieker) Wessling was born on July 14, 1939 in Templeton, Iowa. He was baptized on July 16, 1939 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Templeton. He attended grade school at Sts. Peter and Paul School and graduated from Kuemper Catholic High School in 1957.
After his formal education Ronald served in the United States Navy from June 16, 1957 until his honorable discharge on July 13, 1960. During his time in the Navy, Ron served at the United States Naval Training Center in Illinois, Corpus Christi, TX, Norman, OK, Jacksonville, FL and Naval Air Station North Island at San Diego, CA. After his discharge he returned to Carroll where he began working for Eddie Quinn Clothiers from 1960-1974. He then worked for Burkett’s Clothing from 1974 -1986, Burlington Coat Factory in Omaha, and the Graphic Edge in Carroll until his retirement in 2019.
Ron was an avid sports fan and followed the Iowa State Cyclones, Chicago Cubs, and the Chicago Bears. He enjoyed spending fall Saturdays at Jack Trice Stadium in Ames cheering on the Cyclones. Ron also enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and following them with their sports and activities. Ron had a devout faith praying the Rosary daily and being an active parishioner at St. John Paul II Parish in Carroll.
Ron is survived by his two sons: Todd Wessling of Carroll, and Tim Wessling of Johnston; three grandchildren: Evan Wessling, Lauren Wessling, and Zach Wessling all of Johnston; and his former wife, Mary Wessling of Carroll.
Ron was preceded in death by his parents: Rudolph and Irene Wessling.
