Roger Louis Wernimont, 70 of Carroll, died Saturday, May 3, 2014 at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa.
Mass of the Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, May 8, 2014 at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Carroll. The Celebrant will be Fr. Timothy Johnson. Mass Servers will be Parker and Mallory Badding. Music will be by Barb McDermott, Holy Spirit Choir with Darrell Schettler and Betty Jean Olerich as soloists. Lector for the funeral mass will be: Kelsi Wernimont. Gift Bearers will be: Grandchildren Alexis Wernimont, Emma Wernimont-Berry, Kenzi Wernimont, and Kyler Fehring. Eucharistic Minister will be Jerry Sievers. Casket Bearers will be: Kyler Fehring, Keith Adams, David Holley, Sam Wernimont, Adam Pudenz, Mike Kruger, and Paul McGowan. Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery at Carroll with Military Honors conducted by the Carroll American Legion.
Friends may call at the Sharp Funeral Home in Carroll after 5 p.m. on Wednesday where there will be a Christian Wake Service at 7 p.m. The casket will be moved to Holy Spirit Church at 9:30 a.m. on Thursday where visitation will resume until time of the funeral mass.

Roger Wernimont was born on October 28, 1943 in Carroll, Iowa the son of Albert and Rosalia (Baumhover) Wernimont. He spent his younger years in the Breda area and graduated from St. Bernard’s High School with the Class of 1962. Roger enlisted in the United States Marine Corps where he was a Helicopter Mechanic stationed in Camp Pendleton, Okinawa, Japan, Jacksonville, South Carolina and also served in the Vietnam War.
On December 27, 1965 he was united in marriage to Cheryl Adams at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Carroll by Msgr. Henry Karhoff. The couple resided in Jacksonville, North Carolina and following his honorable discharge they returned to the Carroll area. Upon his return to Carroll he was employed at Roy’s Conoco, Deluxe Cleaners, Drees Plumbing, and retired from Crouse Cartage Company following 30 years of service. For the past 13 years Roger had been driving school bus for the Carroll Community School District.
He loved spending time with his family, friends, playing cards, drinking coffee, and teaching his grandchildren the little duties of life. Roger could be found puttering around outside with anything and everything and always enjoyed helping the neighbor kids with their bikes, recreation balls, or anything they brought to him. He had a special place in his heart for his school bus kids. He felt like a second Grandpa to them. Roger will be forever remembered as a man that would go above and beyond for anyone at anytime. He was a member of the Carroll American Legion and VFW and Holy Spirit Church in Carroll.
Survivors include his wife Cheryl Wernimont of Carroll; his children: Marc Wernimont of Wisner, NE, Jill Wernimont of Carroll, Tony (Bobbi) Wernimont of Glidden, and Jodi Wernimont and friend Rod Berry of Cedar Falls; his grandchildren: Kelsi Wernimont, Kenzi Wernimont, Kyler Fehring, Alexis Wernimont, and Emma Wernimont-Berry; his sisters: Bev (Melvin) Kruger of Churdan, Cheryl (John) Adams of Geneseo, IL, Patricia (Sue Bailey) Wernimont of Omaha, NE, Nancy (Jeff) Pudenz of Breda, and Lori (Craig) Walters of Papillion, NE; his brothers: Merle (Linda) Wernimont of Carroll, Dale Wernimont of Breda, and Alan (Sheryl) Wernimont of Carroll; his sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law: Mary Kay Wernimont of Carroll, Jo Ann Wernimont of Arcadia, Ralph Fischer of College Station, TX, Larry Hinners of Carroll, Loren “Tex” (Judie) Adams of Estherville, Jerry Sievers of Onawa, and Norma (Bob) Holley of Scranton; as well as many nieces, nephews, and other extended relatives and many friends.
Roger was preceded in death by his parents; grandson, Cody Ryan Heller; sisters: Jean Fischer and Phyllis Hinners; brothers: Ronald, Marvin, and Jerry Wernimont; parents-in-law, Glen and Kathryn Adams, sister-in-law Colleen Sievers and nephews Chris and Jay Wernimont.
