Roger was born on April 1, 1947, in Coon Rapids, Iowa, the son of LaJune (Wanninger) and Edward Becker. He grew up helping on the family farm, where he learned the value of hard work, responsibility, and perseverance—qualities that stayed with him throughout his life.
On June 19, 1965, Roger married the love of his life, Rose Ursula Hartl. Together, they built a life based on partnership and family. Their years together were filled with love, laughter, and shared memories.
Roger spent many years working as a mechanic, a trade that suited his skill, and strong work ethic, where he earned the respect of coworkers and customers alike. In 1982, Roger took a brief turn in public service, serving as Mayor of Willey. He later concluded his career with 15 years at Smithfield before retiring.
He was known as someone you could always count on—steady, dependable, and kind. Roger was always willing to lend a hand, and his strength and reliability made a lasting impression on everyone who knew him.
Roger found great joy in entertaining and cooking for family and friends. He and Rose were known for always having everyone’s favorite beverages on hand, and Roger proudly “trained” his grandchildren from a young age to know exactly who got which color of can. He also enjoyed spending time in his shop, tinkering with wood and metal, creating items that brought smiles to those around him.
He is survived by his wife, Rose Becker; his children, Roxanne Reinart of Carroll, Rhonda Farrell of Carroll, Rodney Becker (Leah) of Casey, Ronald Becker of Exira, and Rae Lynn Kastle (significant other Clifford Kinkade) of Carroll; 19 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren; his siblings, Betty (Don) Thomas and Pam (Dean) Berkland; along with many extended family members and dear friends
He was preceded in death by his parents, LaJune Majarus and Edward Becker; and his siblings, Kathleen Schmitz, Bill Schmitz, Jerilyn Olson, Bob Olson, and Dave Becker and son-in-law David Farrell.
Roger will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew him.
