Robert Englander, 68 of Earling and formerly of Carroll, died Sunday, February 16, 2014 at Myrtue Medical Center in Harlan.
Graveside services will be held at 3:30 p.m. on Friday, February 21, 2014 at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Carroll with Bob’s former colleague at Kuemper, Fr. Tim Friedrichsen officiating.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Sharp Funeral Home in Carroll.
Robert D. Englander was born on November 23, 1945 at Detroit, Michigan the son of Max and Yetta (Kief) Englander. He received his Bachelor of Science Degree in 1968 from Eastern Michigan University and also received a Master of Arts Degree from Michigan State University in 1969, with a major in college administration and counseling.
Bob worked as a counselor or college administrator for 25 years in Michigan, Illinois, South Dakota, Ohio, Nebraska, and Iowa. He was a counselor at Kuemper Catholic High School from 1987-1992. Bob was also a charter member of the University of Iowa admissions advisory board. In 1990, Bob was nominated for Iowa Counselor of the Year by Grinnell College.
For the last four years, Bob resided at Little Flower Haven Nursing Home in Earling where he received excellent care and where families of the facility and of Earling considered him an “adopted uncle/grandfather” to their children.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents; and his special friend Janet Hainsworth.
