Robert Augustus, age 66, of Carroll, Iowa, died Monday evening, April 27, 2009, at St. Anthony Regional Hospital in Carroll. Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 A.M., Friday, May 1, 2009, at Holy Spirit Church in Carroll. The Celebrant will be Father Timothy Johnson. Con-celebrant will be Father Peter Duc Nguyen. The casket will be taken to the church at 8:30 A.M. Friday to lie in state until the time of the funeral mass. Lectors will be Linda Kerkhoff and Leah Dunn. Petitions will be read by Colin Kerkhoff, Alex Augustus, and Amanda Augustus. Gift Bearers will be Nick Augustus and Casey Kerkhoff. Soloist will be Blane Kerkhoff. Honorary Pallbearers will be Chad Onken, Kevin Onken, Nick Griggs, Dick Ristau, Charles Remley, Raymond Dewey, Dale James, Bernie Janning, Ron Rutten, John Gochenouer, Dick Bauerle, and Darin Janning. Casket Bearers will be Darwin Sonnenberg, Todd Snyder, Brad Eischeid, Andy Ripkin, Mark Hinz, and Kevin Warner. Burial will be at the convenience of the family at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Carroll. Friends may call at the Sharp Funeral Home in Carroll after 3:30 P.M. Thursday. A rosary will be prayed at 4 P.M. Thursday. There will be a Christian wake service at 7 P.M. Thursday by Holy Spirit Parish. Memorials may be left at the funeral home or church for the Kuemper Catholic Schools Foundation. Mr. Augustus was born on November 22, 1942, at Coon Rapids, Iowa, the son of Albert and Leta (Squibb) Augustus. He spent his younger years in the Coon Rapids community and graduated from Coon Rapids High School in 1960. On February 11, 1961, he was married to Kay Mueggenberg at St. John Church in Arcadia, Iowa. The couple made their home in Carroll. In 1962 he began employment with Witt Flooring Company of Davenport and in 1977 he formed his own company Hawkeye Flooring Company which he operated for several years. He farmed for a ten years and returned to the flooring business with Bernie Janning Terrazzo Company. In recent years Mr. Augustus worked as a free lance consultant to flooring companies and supervised the flooring construction of several federal buildings, the Denver International Airport, and Kansas City International Airport. He was a member of Holy Spirit Parish. Mr. Augustus enjoyed his family, spending time at his cabin on Lost Island Lake near Ruthven, fishing, and terrazzo work. Survivors include his wife, Kay Augustus of Carroll; his children, Curt Augustus and his wife Sheri of Carroll, Craig Augustus of Carroll, and Julie Kerkhoff and her husband Paul of Waukee; seven grandchildren, Amanda Augustus, Alex Augustus, Nick Augustus, Bre Augustus, Leah Dunn, Casey Kerkhoff and Colin Kerkhoff; a sister, Charlotte Prescott and her husband Frank of Coon Rapids; two brothers, Jerry Augustus and his wife Pat of Bagley, and Terry Augustus and his wife Mary of Glidden; and his mother-in-law, Dorothy Mueggenberg of Carroll. He was preceded in death by his parents; a granddaughter, Ashley Augustus; brother, Keith Augustus; sister, Patricia Smouse; and his father-in-law, Clem Mueggenberg.
