Rick Keat, 73, of Carroll, died Friday, January 7, 2022, surrounded by his family.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Thursday, January 13, 2022, at the First United Methodist Church in Carroll. Officiating will be Rev. Cindy Johnson of St. John Evangelical Church in Carroll. Congregational hymns will be accompanied by Jan Potthoff. Casket Bearers will be RT Schreck, Jim Molitor, Wes Horn, Mike Humlicek, Jason Daniel, and Scott Haakenson. Burial will be in the Carroll City Cemetery with military honors conducted by the Carroll American Legion.
Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. on Wednesday at the Sharp Funeral Home in Carroll. Additional visitation without greeting the family will be held from 9-9:45 a.m. on Thursday at the church.
The Keat family wishes to thank family and friends for their outpouring of thoughts and prayers and a thank you to the First United Methodist Church for their use of facilities for Rick’s funeral while St. John Church completes their construction updates.

Richard John Keat was born to George and Colet (Eich) Keat on November 3rd, 1948, at Carroll, Iowa. Rick was the oldest of four children. He attended St. Joseph grade school, and graduated Kuemper High School in 1967. Rick served in the U.S. Army from 1968 to 1970, then attended the University of Northern Iowa.
On October 30, 1976, Rick married Mary Beth Juilfs at Faith Lutheran Church in Talmage, Nebraska. Rick and Mary made their home in Carroll, Iowa. They became parents to Brian in 1978 and Sarah in 1981.
Rick worked in construction, particularly flooring, for over 40 years. In retirement he was a groundskeeper at the Carroll Municipal Golf Course. He was an avid sports fan, supporting his local Carroll High Tigers, Iowa Hawkeyes, and New York Yankees. He loved golf, baseball, and was a master gardener. He was an active member of the Carroll American Legion, serving on the honor guard. Rick also loved spending time with his grandkids and watching them in their activities.
Rick is survived by his loving wife, Mary Beth; son Brian Keat and his wife Stephenie, son in law John Danner & Niki, his grandchildren Joseph Core, Emma Danner, Caleb Danner, Maxwell Keat, and Benjamin Keat, siblings Ron Keat, Judi and John Daniel and Jane Keat, in-laws Barb and David Beall, Merlin and Sarah Juilfs, Bodie and Doreen Juilfs.
Rick was preceded in death by his parents George and Colet Keat, daughter Sarah Danner, brother-in-law John Juilfs, sister-in-law Nancy Juilfs, and sister-in-law Deb Keat.
