Born on March 21, 1922 in Templeton, Iowa, Phyllis was the daughter of William and Lillian (Rohe) Trecker. She spent her younger years in the Templeton and Halbur area and attended country school.
On February 6, 1945, Phyllis was united in marriage to Leonard Riesberg at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Halbur. The couple made their home near Dedham where they farmed for 38 years and in 1983 moved into the Carroll community. They enjoyed wintering in Arizona and Phyllis continued to spend her winters there following the passing of her husband. She loved her 3-wheel bike and put many miles each day on it. She also enjoyed playing cards, bingo, and taking trips to the casino. One of her family’s fondest memories was watching Phyllis do the “chicken dance” at her 90th birthday.
Phyllis will be remembered as kind, gentle, patient, great sense of humor, and even a gentle stubbornness about her. She loved socializing with her family, her many friends and always made time for others. Phyllis was a member of Holy Spirit Parish and had a deep devotion to her faith, praying the rosary daily. In 2014, Phyllis moved to the Swan Place in Carroll where she passed away on Tuesday at the age of 94.
Survivors include her children: Dee Bertrand (Christy McGowan) of Mesa, AZ, Kay (Joe) Roberts of Carroll, Mary (Terry) Snyder of Carroll, Bill (Debbie) Riesberg of Carroll, Rick (Gabriela) Riesberg of Chula Vista, CA, and Gene Riesberg (Christina Morris) of Germantown, MD; 15 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; her sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law: Edna Trecker of Carroll, Mary Trecker of Carroll, Leona Riesberg of Halbur, Joe (Karen) Riesberg of Atlantic, Flora Sibbel of Carroll, Margie (John) Sibbel of Halbur, Dorothy Riesberg of Carroll, and Leon (Marlene) Riesberg of Arizona; as well as many nieces, nephews, and other extended relatives.
Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Leonard; a daughter, Mary Florence in infancy; her sister, Florence Schroer; her brothers: LaVern Trecker and Merle Trecker.
