Phyllis Mae Hinners, 73 of Carroll, died Monday, January 02, 2012 at Clarkson Memorial Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska.
Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Thursday at Holy Spirit Church in Carroll. The Celebrant will be Fr. Timothy Boekelman. Con-Celebrant will be Fr. Clair Boes. Music will be by Barb McDermott and the Holy Spirit Choir. Lector for the funeral mass will be Adam Pudenz. Gift Bearers will be Phyllis’s sisters. Casket Bearers will be: Adam Pudenz, Craig Walter, John Adams, Todd Snyder, Steve Wiese and Ray Miller. Burial will be at St. John’s Cemetery in Arcadia.
Visitation will be from 9-11 a.m., Thursday at Holy Spirit Church in Carroll. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Sharp Funeral Home in Carroll. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.sharpfuneral.com.
Born on March 10, 1938 at Carroll, Iowa, Phyllis Mae was the daughter of Albert and Rosalia (Baumhover) Wernimont. She grew up in Breda and graduated from St. Bernard’s High School. On August 20, 1958 she married Larry Hinners at St. Bernard’s Church in Breda. Phyllis spent her entire lifetime in the Carroll area. She worked for a brief time at the G.E. Plant in Carroll and worked for over 26 years at the Carrollton Inn as a housekeeper. Most recently she was employed at the Carroll Health Center. Phyllis enjoyed trips to the casino, trips to Omaha and Las Vegas with her son, and socializing and having coffee with her family and friends. She was a former member of the Breda Foresters, and a member of Holy Spirit Parish in Carroll.
Survivors include her husband of 53 years, Larry Hinners of Carroll; her son, Merlin Hinners of Carroll; her granddaughter Amanda; her sisters: Beverly (Melvin) Kruger of Churdan, Cheryl (John) Adams of Geneseo, IL, Pat (Sue Bailey) Wernimont of Omaha, NE, Nancy (Jeff) Pudenz of Breda, Lori (Craig) Walter of Papillion, NE; her brothers: Merle (Linda) Wernimont of Carroll, Roger (Cheryl) Wernimont of Carroll, Dale (Rosemary) Wernimont of Breda, and Alan (Sheryl) Wernimont of Carroll; her sisters-in-law: JoAnn Wernimont of Arcadia, and Mary Kay Wernimont of Carroll; her brother-in-law, Ralph Fisher of College Station, TX; as well as many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter Mary; her parents-in-law, Irwin and Victoria Hinners; her sister, Jean Fisher; her brothers: Gerald, Ronald, and Marvin Wernimont.
