Pat Sondgeroth, 78 of Carroll, died Friday morning, July 11, 2014 at the Carroll Health Center after a long battle with cancer.
Mass of the Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 17, 2014 at Holy Angels Catholic Church in Roselle. The Celebrant will be Fr. Steven Brodersen assisted by Deacon Jerry Steensen. Music will be by Sue Feilmeier and the Holy Angels Choir. Lector for the funeral mass will be Larry Nagle. Gift Bearers will be Pat’s great-grandchildren. Honorary Casket Bearers will be Pat’s granddaughters: Emily Nagle, Michelle O’Dell, Mindy Williams, Nicole Rasmussen, Sasha Backhaus, and Haylie Sondgeroth. Casket Bearers will be Pat’s grandsons: Seth Nagle, Josh Nagle, Paul Toppin, Ryan Toppin, Curt Toppin, Dylan Newbrough, Nick Backhaus, and Corey Gross. Burial will be in Holy Angels Cemetery in Roselle.
Friends may call at the Sharp Funeral Home in Carroll after 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday where there will be a rosary at 5 p.m. and a Christian Wake Service at 7 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be sent to Holy Angels Church or the American Cancer Society.

Patricia Adeline was born on March 9, 1936 in Templeton, Iowa the daughter of John and Ardella (Kasperbauer) Niehaus. She spent her younger years in the Templeton area and graduated from Sacred Heart High School.
On February 4, 1956 she was united in marriage to LeRoy Sondgeroth at Holy Angels Catholic Church in Roselle. The couple made their home near Roselle where Pat raised their children, and assisted her husband with the farm operation. Pat and LeRoy were also partners for several years in the Trio Tavern in Roselle. In 1984 LeRoy passed away. Pat moved to Carroll in 1987. She was a member of Holy Spirit Parish in Carroll and a member of Holy Angels Parish in Roselle. She worked at Fairview Elementary in the hot lunch program for many years until she retired in 2010. She thoroughly enjoyed interacting with the children and always had a smile and kind word for everyone. Pat particularly enjoyed holiday gatherings with her family. Christmas’s were especially joyous events at her house. Pat was greatly admired by her family for her strength and courage through her long struggle with cancer.
Survivors include her children: Connie (Larry) Nagle of Dubuque, Carol (Scott) Toppin of Cedar Falls, Cathy (Leon) Williams of Halbur, Crystal (Richard) Newbrough of LeGrand, Carla (Jerry) Backhaus of Westside, and Clint Sondgeroth and friend Amy Gross of Roselle; her special friend, Glenn “Rocky” Jochims of Carroll; 14 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; one brother, Ronald “Butch” (Betty) Niehaus of Clarinda; her sister-in-law and brothers-in-law: Irma (Art) Reicks of Carroll, Jerry Steensen of Omaha, and Jerry Schulte of Marshalltown; as well as many nieces, nephews, and other extended relatives.
Pat was preceded in death by her parents and her husband LeRoy.
