Norma Kennebeck, age 83 of Breda, died on Monday, June 25, 2012 at her residence in Breda surrounded by her family.
Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church in Breda. The Celebrant will be Fr. Joe Dillinger. Music will be by organist, Marilyn Hundling and the St. Bernard’s Choir with Jake Gute as soloist. Mass servers will be Adam and Ryan Schelle. Lectors for the funeral mass will be: Michelle Loew, Donna Bachman, and Don Masching. Gift Bearers will be Norma’s great-grandchildren. Eucharistic Ministers will be: Carmen Ludwig and Paul and Rita Ann Venner. Honorary Casket Bearers will be Roger and Kay Schwabe, Rita Vonnahme, Dale and Mary Ann Huegerich, and Joan Wittry. Casket Bearers will be Norma’s sons: Jim, Denny, Mark, Kenny, Andy, and Dean Kennebeck. The Breda American Legion Auxiliary will form an honor guard for the funeral mass. Burial will be at St. Bernard’s Cemetery in Breda.
Friends may call at the Sharp Funeral Home in Breda after 3 p.m. on Thursday where there will be a rosary at 4 p.m. by the St. Bernard’s Ladies Guild and Norma’s grandchildren. Following the rosary there will be a Secular 3rd Order Franciscan Service. There will be a Christian Wake Service at 7 p.m. by St. Bernard’s Parish. Born on November 29, 1928 at Carroll, Iowa, Norma Elizabeth was the daughter of Charles and Mary Ann (Goecke) Schelle. She spent nearly her entire lifetime in the Breda Community and graduated from St. Bernard’s High School. On September 7, 1948 she married Fred Kennebeck at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church in Breda. Fred and Norma made their home in Willey for a brief time before moving back to the Breda area where they raised their twelve children. Norma’s devotion to her family and her faith were evidenced in her involvement in St. Bernard’s Parish and raising their twelve children. She also worked as St. Bernard’s Grade School Secretary, Editor at the Breda News, and managed the parish cemetery books for 30 years. Norma was active in the parish choir, active member of Al-Anon, and was also a volunteer for hospice. She enjoyed sewing, quilting, writing, card club, and the board game scrabble. Norma’s greatest joy was her family, and was a special part of each of their lives. She was a member of St. Bernard’s Parish, Parish Ladies Guild, Breda American Legion Auxiliary and the Secular 3rd Order Franciscan Fraternity. Norma is survived by her children: Joyce (Randy) Sieve of Stratford, Marilyn (Spike) Underberg of Carroll, Phyllis Lawler of Carroll, Jim Kennebeck of Dallas, TX, Julie Nixon of Nevada, Denny (Penny) Kennebeck of Chillicothe, MO, Mark Kennebeck of Carroll, Kenny (KB) Kennebeck of Carroll, Andy (Lynn) Kennebeck of Ft. Dodge, Dean (Angela) Kennebeck of Ankeny, Virginia Kennebeck of Carroll, and Sara (Jeff) Morgan of Boone; 22 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; two sisters: Jean Thelen of Carroll and Lois Roets of Des Moines; two brothers: Nyle (Mary) Schelle of Glidden and Ron (Pat) Schelle of Pfafftown, NC; her sisters-in-laws and brothers-in-laws: Mildred Schelle of Carroll, Rosella Schelle of Carroll, Eugene “Bud” Kennebeck of Carroll, Ruth Ann Snyder of Carroll, Mary (Dale) Bernholtz of Carroll, Doris (Bill) Brueggeman of Lake City, Marvin Snyder of Carroll, Louise Kennebeck of Carroll, and Larry (Della) Hinners of Manning; as well as other extended relatives.
Norma was preceded in death by her parents; husband Fred in 1997; and three brothers: Merlin, Wilmer and Wayne Schelle; her sister-in-law, Marita Schelle; and her brothers-in-law: Lenus “Leny” Thelen and Phil Roets.
