Norbert Sturm, 83 of Carroll, died Wednesday, April 25, 2012 at the Exira Care Center in Exira.
Mass of the Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Templeton. The Celebrant will be Fr. Steven Brodersen. Con-Celebrant will be Fr. Timothy Johnson. Lector for the funeral mass will be Norbert’s son, Dale Sturm. Gift Bearers will be Norbert’s daughters: Deb Bauer, Peg Willenborg, Kathy Rosonke, and Janice Herzberg. Eucharistic Ministers will be Norbert’s children: Deb Bauer, Dan Sturm and Kathy Rosonke. Casket Bearers will be Norbert’s grandsons: Kevin Sturm, Brian Willenborg, Andrew Herzberg, Jay Willenborg, Joel Herzberg, Tyler Rosonke, and Travis Herzberg. Burial will be at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Templeton with military honors conducted by the Manning American Legion and Manning VFW.
Friends may call at the Sharp Funeral Home in Carroll after 3:30 p.m. on Friday where there will be a rosary at 4 p.m. by the Carroll Knights of Columbus and a Christian Wake Service at 7 p.m. by Sacred Heart Parish. The casket will be moved to Sacred Heart Church at 9 a.m. Saturday where visitation will resume until time of the funeral mass. In lieu of flowers memorials may be left at the funeral home or the church for the local Alzheimer’s Association, Holy Spirit Parish, or Sacred Heart Parish in Templeton.

Born on April 15, 1929 at Templeton, Iowa, Norbert was the son of Wolfgang and Francis (Hacker) Sturm. He spent most of his lifetime in the Templeton Area and attended country school. Norbert served in the United States Army from 1951 to 1953 during the Korean War until his honorable discharge. On November 11, 1952 he married Marjorie Klocke, the love of his life at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Templeton. The couple farmed southeast of Dedham for 9 years and in 1961 purchased and moved to the Klocke family farm, north of Templeton. In 1991 they moved from the farm to the Carroll Community. Norbert and Marjorie enjoyed their retirement by traveling and were thrilled when they celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary in 2002. Norbert enjoyed people and always had time to help a friend. He loved being with his family, enjoyed visiting with his friends, playing cards, fishing, and always wore a smile. Norbert was a lifelong member of Sacred Heart Church in Templeton, Carroll Knights of Columbus, Manning VFW, and Holy Spirit Church in Carroll.
Survivors include his children: Deb Bauer and her husband Ron of Urbandale, Dale Sturm and his wife Nina of Villisca, Dan Sturm and his wife Diane of Roselle, Peg Willenborg and her husband Larry of Carroll, Kathy Rosonke and her husband Wayne of Papillion, NE, Janice Herzberg and her husband Jim of Villisca, and Scott Sturm and his wife Alison of Templeton; 17 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; one brother, Albert (Ardith) Sturm of Manning; sister-in-law, Mildred Sturm of Lake City; as well as other relatives and many friends.
Norbert was preceded in death by his parents; wife Marjorie in 2004; his sisters: Rose (Ted) Wiederin, Agnes (Dave) Wiederin, Mary (Herbert) Riesberg, Hilda (Andrew) Riesberg; and brothers: Edward Sturm and Leonard (Dorothy) Sturm.
