Merlin “Teddy” Loneman, 87, of Mt. Carmel died Sunday, August 31, 2014 at Shady Oaks Care Center in Lake City.
Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Friday, September 5, 2014 at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church in Mt. Carmel. The Celebrant will be Fr. Gary Snyder. Music will be by Nancy Lemker and the Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Choir. Lector will be Don Masching. Gift bearers will be Teddy’s daughters: Janet McLaughlin, Lisa Kroeger, Mary Ascher, Joni Hansen, and Lori Loneman. Eucharistic minister will be Teddy’s daughter-in-law, Lori Loneman. Casket bearers will be Teddy’s sons: Mike Loneman, Robert Loneman, Denny Loneman, Tom Loneman, Don Loneman, Joe Loneman, and Chuck Loneman. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. Military honors will be conducted by the Carroll American Legion.
Friends may call at the Sharp Funeral Home in Carroll on Thursday, after 4 p.m. where there will be a rosary at 5 p.m. and a Christian Wake Service at 7 p.m.

Born on April 25, 1927 at Maple River, Iowa, Merlin Joseph was the son of Joseph and Francis (Griffin) Loneman. He attended school in Maple River. After completing his education Teddy helped his father with the farming operation. He then enlisted in the United States Army, and proudly served his country during the Korean Conflict. Upon returning home from overseas he met Judy Vanderheiden, and they married on June 15, 1954 at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church in Mt. Carmel. Over the years Teddy worked for Juergens Produce and Feed where Teddy drove truck as well as delivered produce and eggs. Teddy enjoyed working outdoors, card playing, and his cattle. He was a former member of the Carroll American Legion, and a member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Parish.
Survivors include his children: Janet (Jim) McLaughlin of Manning, Mike (Terri) Loneman of Huxley, Robert (Cynthia) Loneman of Carroll, Denny (Lori) Loneman of Mt. Carmel, Tom (Lisa Munger) Loneman of Big Lake, MN, Don (Sheila) Loneman of Ankeny, Joe (Patty) Loneman of Mt. Carmel, Chuck (Del) Loneman of Zimmerman, MN, Lisa (Nate Thompson) Kroeger of Carroll, Mary (Brent) Ascher of Grundy Center, Joni (Rob) Hansen of Sac City, and Lori (Jolene Harms) Loneman of Lidderdale; a daughter-in-law, Tonya (Jamie) Erickson of Cambridge, MN; 32 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren; his siblings: Ervin (Lois) Loneman of Carroll, and Lois (Jim) Beymer of Denison; his brothers-in-law, and his sisters-in-law: Iris (Andy) Oswald of Omaha, NE, Shirley (Bud) Gregory of Eugene, OR, Jean Lowe of Jefferson, Earl (Renee) Vanderheiden of Wisconsin, and Arnie Beckman of Nebraska City, NE; as well as many nieces, nephews, and other extended relatives.
Teddy was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Judy in 2005, a son, Pat Loneman, a daughter-in-law LuAnn Loneman, and his brothers: Zeke Loneman, Johnny Loneman, Jim Loneman, and Windy Loneman.
