Marlene Brincks, age 80, of Roselle, died late Saturday evening, February 21, 2015 at St. Anthony Nursing Home in Carroll.
Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, February 25, 2015 at Holy Angels Catholic Church in Roselle. The Celebrant will be Fr. Steven Brodersen. Music will be by Marcy Anderson and the Holy Angel Choir. Lectors will Marlene’s granddaughters: Lauren Macke, and Rachel Varley. Gift Bearers will be Marlene’s granddaughters: Courtney Brincks, Sydney Brincks, Riley Brincks, and Kenzie Brincks. Eucharistic Ministers will be Dan and Diane Sturm and Tom Simons. Honorary Casket Bearers will be Marlene’s grandchildren: Colby Brincks, Grant Macke, Jessi Crouse, and Sara Schroeder. Casket Bearers will be Chase Varley, Josh Crouse, Eric Schroeder, Cory Hart, Devon Majerus, and Duane Sloth. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.
Friends may call at the Sharp Funeral Home in Carroll after 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, where there will be a Rosary at 5 p.m. and a Christian Wake Service at 7 p.m.

Born on March 26, 1934 in Willey, Iowa, Marlene was the daughter of Clem and Florence (Wiskus) Balk. At a young age the family moved to the Templeton area, where Marlene grew up. Marlene attended country school south of Templeton. On June 15, 1954 Marlene was united in marriage to Melvin Brincks at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Templeton. The couple made their home in Carroll for five years before moving to the Roselle community. Marlene was a devoted homemaker. The couple owned and operated Trio Tavern in Roselle for 12 years. After the children were raised Marlene went to work for St. Anthony Nursing Home in Carroll as a housekeeper, a job she held until her retirement. Marlene enjoyed vegetable gardening, playing cards especially “Blitz”, and traveling to Arizona. She also enjoyed entertaining and the time spent with her family and friends. Marlene was a member of Holy Angels Altar Society, and Holy Angels Parish in Roselle.
Left to celebrate Marlene’s life is her husband, Melvin Brincks of Roselle; her children: Alan (Diane) Brincks of Mt. Carmel, Anna Mae (Randy) Hart of Coon Rapids, Mark (Dawn) Brincks of Mesa, AZ, Jim (Lisa) Brincks of Johnston, Jennifer (Pat) Macke of Carroll, and Jody (Cheryl) Brincks of Carroll; her grandchildren: Cory (Melissa) Hart, Jessi (Josh) Crouse, Sara (Eric) Schroeder, Rachel (Chase) Varley, Devon Majerus, Sydney Brincks, Lauren Macke, Courtney Brincks, Colby Brincks, Riley Brincks, Grant Macke, Kenzie Brincks; four great-granddaughters; her siblings: LeRoy (Judy) Balk of Templeton, Ray (Faye) Balk of Odessa, MO, Terry Balk of Council Bluffs, and Gary Balk of Manning; her brother-in-laws, and sister-in-laws: Dale Sloth of Audubon, Larry Gute of Carroll, LeRoy (Darlene) Brincks of Carroll, Alvina (Wayne) Poeppe of Missouri, Mary Ann Schlicte of Wisconsin, Bernice (LaVerne) Halbur of Missouri, Rosemary (Charles) Martin of Waucoma, and Delora Brincks of Carroll, as well as many niece, nephews, and other extended relatives.
Marlene was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Lynn Brincks; a grandson Cole Brincks, and her siblings Thelma Grimsman, Louise Sloth, LaVerne Balk and Dorene Gute.
