Marie Wunschel, 91 of Carroll, died early Friday morning, December 5, 2014 at St. Anthony Nursing Home in Carroll following a courageous battle with cancer.
Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m., Friday, December 12, 2014 at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Carroll. The Celebrant will be Fr. Timothy Johnson. Music will be by Barb McDermott and the Holy Spirit Choir with Nicole Stork as soloist. Lector for the funeral mass will be Betty Wolterman. Gift Bearers will be Glen and Diane Smith. Honorary Casket Bearers will be Marie’s nieces. Casket Bearers will be Marie’s nephews. Burial will be at be at 1:30 p.m. Friday in the Wall Lake Cemetery. The St. Anthony Hospital Auxiliary will form an honor guard for the funeral mass.
Visitation will be held at Holy Spirit Church on Friday at 9:30 a.m. until time of the funeral mass.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be left at the church or mailed to family of Marie Wunschel, c/o Sharp Funeral Home, 226 W. 8th St. Carroll, Iowa, 51401 and will be directed to St. Anthony Hospice and St. Anthony Hospital Auxiliary.

Born on July 1, 1923, near Breda, Iowa, Marie was the youngest daughter of Bernard and Agnes (Grote) Stork. She attended St. Bernard’s School and graduated with the Class of 1941. She then attended Ft. Dodge Beauty Academy and received her degree in 1942.
On August 19, 1947, Marie and Raymond J. Wunschel were married at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church in Breda. The couple made their home in Ft. Dodge, Iowa from 1954 until 1985 where Marie ran a beauty shop out of her home. They moved to Lake View, Iowa in 1985 where she lived until 1994. Marie has resided in the Carroll Community since moving from Lake View.
Marie enjoyed gardening, nature, cats, playing the organ, and camping trips with her husband Ray. She loved her annual trip to Minnesota to stay with her nephew and his wife. While in Carroll, Marie enjoyed volunteering with the hospital auxiliary, sewing rugs, helping with the chapel at Orchard View, jigsaw puzzles, and playing cards. She was grateful for the time she spent with her family.
Marie had a strong faith and was a member of Holy Spirit Parish in Carroll.
Survivors include her sister, Rita Wolterman of Adams, MN; her brother, Louis Stork of Carroll; 11 nieces and nephews; and many friends.
Marie was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Raymond in 1993; her sister Elizabeth Stork; her sisters-in-law: Agnes, Mabel, and Clara Wunschel and Lois Stork; and her brother-in-law, Harold Wolterman.
