Marguerite Dunn, age 87, of Carroll, Iowa, died Thursday evening, June 11, 2009, at the Bishop Drumm Care Center in Johnston, Iowa. Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 A.M., Monday, June 15, 2009, at Holy Spirit Church in Carroll. The Celebrant will be Father Timothy Johnson. The casket will be taken to the church at 8:30 A.M. Monday to lie in state until the time of the funeral mass. Lectors will be granddaughters, Samantha Dunn, Amy White, and Kelley Crosbie. Gift Bearers will be granddaughters, Jessica Dunn, Jenny Masching, Beth Tigges, Anne Hayward, and Mickayla Dunn. Soloist will be Kristie Tigges. The Carroll Catholic Daughters of America and St. Anthony Hospital Auxiliary will form an honor guard for the funeral mass. Casket Bearers will be grandsons, Don Dunn, Jim Dunn, Grant Hayward, Joe Dunn, Johnny Dunn, Dan Dunn, and Charlie Wenck. Graveside services will be at 1:30 P.M. Monday at St. Joseph Cemetery in Wall Lake, Iowa. Friends may call at the Sharp Funeral Home in Carroll after 3:30 P.M. Sunday. A rosary will be prayed at 4 P.M. Sunday by the Catholic Daughters of America. There will be a Christian wake service at 7 P.M. Sunday by Holy Spirit Parish. Mrs. Dunn was born on July 3, 1921, at Wall Lake, Iowa, the daughter of Leo and Agnes (Maher) Downey. She spent her younger years in the Wall Lake community and graduated from Wall Lake High School in 1938. She then attended the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls and received her elementary teaching certificate. She began teaching in rural schools and taught at Ogden, Lake View, St. Bernard School in Breda, St. Lawrence School in Carroll, and substituted at Holy Spirit School in Carroll. On June 16, 1947, she was married to Joseph B. Dunn at St. Joseph Church in Wall Lake with Father Philip Dailey officiating. The couple farmed near Wall Lake before moving to Carroll in 1975. She was a member of Holy Spirit Parish, Parish Ladies Guild, Catholic Daughters of America, and St. Anthony Hospital Auxiliary. Survivors include her daughters, Pat Kunz and her husband Steve of Ames, Mary Dunn-Hayward and her husband Jim of Urbandale, and Kathy Kubovich and her husband Mark of Johnston; sons, Tom Dunn and his wife Joan of Sheldon, Dan Dunn of Breda, John Dunn and his wife Ruth of Omaha, Nebr., and Bill Dunn of Ankeny; fifteen grandchildren; six great grandchildren; and a sister-in-law, Margaret Boes of Carroll. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph B. Dunn, in September 1996; a son, Michael Dunn, in February 2009; her parents; brothers, Joseph Downey and his wife Mary, John Downey and his wife Margaret, and Tom Downey and his wife Mary Kay; a brother-in-law, Raymond Boes; and father and mother-in law, Leo and Mary Dunn.
