Madelyn Huelsing, 93, of Denison and formerly of Maple River, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 20, 2026, at Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison.
Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, January 23, 2026, at St. Ann’s Church in Vail. The Celebrant will be Father Michael Cronin. The Mass Servers are Isaac and Ethan Thelen. Chris Thelen is the Lector and Eucharistic Minister is Julie Gerdes. The Gift Bearers are Pam Vigil and Sarah Hogue. Casket Bearers will be Madelyn’s nieces and nephews. Burial will be in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Cemetery in Mount Carmel.
A visitation will be held from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Thursday, January 22, 2026, at the Sharp Funeral Home in Carroll with a Prayer Service at 7 p.m. The casket will be moved to St. Ann’s Church in Vail at 9:15 a.m. Friday morning where visitation will resume until the time of the Funeral Mass.

Madelyn, daughter of William and Iila (Miller) Schloesser, was born December 16, 1932, at Vail, Iowa. She grew up in Vail and graduated from St. Ann’s School. During her senior year, Madelyn was selected as the May Queen. She then attended St. Anthony’s Nursing School and became a Registered Nurse.
On September 6, 1954, Madelyn was united in marriage with Marvin Huelsing at St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Vail. The couple first lived near Scranton for a year before moving to the Carroll area. In 1993, they moved to Maple River where she was a faithful member of St. Francis Parish.
Madelyn’s entire working career was spent at St. Anthony Hospital in Carroll where she worked diligently in Post-Anesthesia Recovery from 1965 until her retirement in 1999. She was once selected as “Nurse of the Year.”
Madelyn enjoyed gardening and canning. Many of her vacations were spent walking beans.
Madelyn is survived by her siblings: Martin (Kay) Schloesser of Calhan, Colorado; Mary (Tim) Gilligan of Gretna, Nebraska; Michael Schloesser of Calhan, Colorado; Dorothy (LeRoy) Childress of Denison; as well as many nieces, nephews, other extended relatives and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a beloved stillborn son Michael Anthony; her siblings: Marleen (Norman) Thelen, Melvin (Diane) Schloesser; and a sister-in-law Delores (Duane) Steinkamp.
