Madeline “Madge” Onken, age 81, of Lidderdale, died Sunday, September 1, 2024.
A funeral mass will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, September 14, 2024 at St. Lawrence Church-St. John Paul II Parish in Carroll. The celebrant will be Fr. Patrick Behm. Music will be by Kathy Halbur. Lectors will be Mark Onken, Gina Tigges, and Solomon Brownlee. Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Carroll.
Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. on Friday at the Sharp Funeral Home in Carroll. The Calhoun County Nurses Honor Guard will honor Madge at 7 p.m. with a ceremony which will then be followed by a rosary. There will be no visitation prior to the funeral mass Saturday at the church.

Madeline (Madge) Gail Kroll Onken was born on February 14, 1943. She grew up in Manilla, Iowa. After graduating high school in 1961, she attended Nursing School in Carroll, Iowa where she then met Wally. They were engaged and married two years after Wally returned from serving in the Vietnam War.
Madge was a caring and compassionate nurse as well as a loving mother to her two sons, Jeff and Mark Onken. She was a kind and generous mother-in-law and grandmother to Mark’s wife Keary and their daughter Lorelai, as well as a devoted aunt to her nieces, nephews, and their families, as well as her brothers and sisters.
Madge loved playing cards with her family and friends, as well as taking golf cart rides around Lidderdale. She took great pride in her flower gardens and keeping the yard spotless. The last few years Madeline resided at Addington Place in Carroll and Hansen House in Council Bluffs. She will be remembered and missed by many.
Madeline is survived by her sons Jeffrey (Janine Plumb) Onken and Mark (Keary) Onken; a granddaughter Lorelai, as well as extended family and friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Ralph and Phyllis Kroll, her husband of 55 years, Walter (Wally) Onken and her mother and father-in-law, Mary and Walter Onken.
