Lynette Steinkamp, age 87, of Breda, Iowa, died Tuesday, December 2, 2008, at Twilight Acres Nursing Home in Wall Lake, Iowa. Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 A.M., Friday, December 5, 2008, at St. Bernard Church in Breda. The Celebrant will be Father Joe Dillinger. Lector will be a nephew, Leonard Snyder. Gift Bearers will be granddaughters, Morgan Steinkamp, Brea Steinkamp, and Lindsay Umstead. Mass Servers will be Mariah Masching, Matt Wessling, and Dillon Walsh. Eucharistic Ministers will be Mary Lou Schultes, Katy Hildman, and Laurie Steinkamp. Honorary Pallbearers will be Mrs. Steinkamp’s granddaughters. Casket Bearers will be grandsons, Wes Bierl, Doug Steinkamp, Jon Steinkamp, Mitchell Dettbarn, Chase Steinkamp, Eric Steinkamp, and Ryan Steinkamp. Burial will be at St. Bernard Cemetery in Breda. Friends may call at the Sharp Funeral Home in Breda after 2:30 P.M. Thursday. A rosary will be prayed at 3 P.M. Thursday by St. Bernard Ladies Guild. There will be a Christian wake service at 7 P.M. Thursday by St. Bernard Parish. Mrs. Steinkamp was born on August 25, 1921, at Dedham, Iowa, the daughter of Mike and Catherine (Zitzlsperger) Schultes. She spent her younger years in the Dedham and Willey communities and attended St. Mary School in Willey and St. Angela Academy in Carroll. Following her education she did domestic work in the area. On July 31, 1945, she was married to Leonard Steinkamp at St. Mary Church in Willey. The couple farmed north of Breda. Her husband died in February 1981 and Mrs. Steinkamp moved to her home in Breda in 1984. She was a member of St. Bernard Parish and Parish Ladies Guild. Mrs. Steinkamp enjoyed her family, gambling, going to the Dog Racing Track, cooking, and driving around in her car. Survivors include her children, James Steinkamp and his wife Faith of Carroll, Richard Steinkamp and his wife Jan of Breda, Alyce Bierl and her husband Leon of Arcadia, Thomas Steinkamp and his wife Laurie of Carroll, LeRoy “Doc” Steinkamp and his fiancé Sherry Burton of Breda, Mike Steinkamp and his wife Lori of Breda, Mary Dettbarn and her husband Larry of Breda, Dale Steinkamp and his wife Phyllis of Breda, and Dean Steinkamp and his wife Dana of Creston; 22 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; sisters, Alvera Irlbeck of Carroll, Janet Snyder of Breda, Dorothy Bruening of Carroll, Loretta Hannasch of San Antonio, Texas, and Marilyn Pletchette of Carroll; and sisters-in-law, Mary Lou Schultes of Dedham and Maxine Schultes of Carroll. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Leonard Steinkamp; a son, Jerome Steinkamp, in infancy; grandchildren, Adam and Tessa Steinkamp; sisters, Lavine Tigges, Louise Schultes, and Mary Jo Schultes; and brothers, Arthur and Leon Schultes.
