Lucille Berger, age 86, of Carroll, Iowa, died Monday, May 3, 2010, at St. Anthony Nursing Home in Carroll.
Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:30 A.M., Saturday, May 8, 2010, at St. Lawrence Church in Carroll. The Celebrant will be Father Timothy Schott. Lector will be Rosemary Riesberg. Gift Bearers will be Hailey, Jack, and Emma Bluml. Eucharistic Ministers will be Marilyn Steinkamp, Jane Bruening, and Emily Berger. Casket Bearers will be Ron Berger, Dan Berger, Dan Seidl, Jeff Bluml, Don Meiners, Allen Berger, Jim Riesberg, and Bob Berger. Burial will be at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Carroll.
Friends may call at the Sharp Funeral Home in Carroll after 2:30 P.M. Friday. A rosary will be prayed at 3 P.M. Friday. There will be a Christian wake service at 6:30 P.M. Friday by St. Lawrence Parish. Memorials may be left at the funeral home or church for Carroll Area Right to Life or the Alzheimer’s Unit at St. Anthony Nursing Home.
Lucille was born on January 2, 1924, at Willey, Iowa, the daughter of George and Theresia (Brincks) Berger. She attended St. Mary School at Willey and later received her G.E.D. diploma. When Lucille was younger she was employed by the James Houlihan family and was a bookkeeper and waitress at Pauline’s Café. Later she was employed as a bookkeeper for Houlihan Motors, the Verna Frank Office, and Winnike and Masching Oil Company. She was a member of St. Lawrence Parish and Parish Ladies Guild. Lucille enjoyed her family, genealogy, walking, and music.
Survivors include her sisters, Marie Riesberg of Carroll, Leona Seidl of Coon Rapids, Frances Meiners and husband Albert of Coon Rapids, and Bernice Bluml and husband Elmer of Carroll; a brother, Edmund Berger and wife LaVonne of Lidderdale; sisters-in-law, Dorothy Berger of Lohrville, and Virginia Berger of Carroll; and by many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Joseph, Alvin, and Ray Berger; and a sister-in-law, Viola Berger.
