Louise Friedman, 98 of Raleigh, North Carolina, and formerly of Carroll, Iowa, died early Wednesday morning, July 24, 2013 at her home in Raleigh, North Carolina.
Mass of the Christian Burial will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, August 3, 2013 at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Carroll. The Celebrant will be Fr. Timothy Schott. Con-Celebrant and homilist will be Fr. James Tigges. Music will be by Marcy Anderson, St. Lawrence Choir and Kristie Tigges as soloist. Lectors for the funeral mass will be: John Mistrot, Mark Friedman, and Patrick Noonan. Gift Bearers will be: Anna Noonan, Katie O’Neill, and Kristi Markowitz. Eucharistic Ministers will be: Luzann Noonan and Mary Williams. Casket Bearers will be: Ben Friedman, Michael Friedman, Erin Friedman, Meghan Feldpausch, Daniel Mistrot, Andrew Noonan, Matt Williams, and David Williams. Burial will be at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Carroll.
Friends may call at the Sharp Funeral Home in Carroll after 4:30 p.m. on Friday where there will be a rosary at 5 p.m. and a Christian Wake Service at 7 p.m. by St. Lawrence Parish.
The casket will be moved to St. Lawrence Church at noon on Saturday where visitation will resume until time of the funeral mass. Memorials may be left for food for the poor at www.foodforthepoor.org.

Born on October 26, 1914 at Carroll, Iowa, Louise was the daughter of William and Anna (Kruse) Scharfenkamp. She spent her younger years in the Carroll community and attended Sts. Peter and Paul School, later graduating from St. Angela Academy. Louise then received a degree in nursing from St. Anthony School of Nursing, graduating in 1935. Upon graduation she was employed at St. Anthony Hospital in Carroll and later the Carroll Clinic. On August 26, 1940 she married Walter L. Friedman at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Carroll, Iowa. The couple resided in several Midwestern states while Walter was employed with Montgomery Ward Company, and later settled in Rhinelander, Wisconsin. In 1998 Walter and Louise moved to Raleigh, North Carolina. Louise enjoyed playing bridge but her greatest joy was her grandchildren. She was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Parish in Raleigh, North Carolina and was also a member of the Third Order of St. Francis of Assisi.
Survivors include her children: Brother Paul Friedman, O.S.B. of Esquipulas, Guatemala, Mary Carol (Richard) Williams of Colorado Springs, CO, Louise Ann (Laurence) Noonan of North Easton, MA, Mark (Mary Ruth) Friedman of Wausau, WI, and Joan (Jacques) Mistrot of Raleigh, NC; her daughter-in-law, Kathryn Friedman of Raleigh, NC; 19 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; her sister-in-law, Carolyn Bernice Majewski of WI; as well as other extended relatives.
Louise was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Walter in 1999; her son Jerome in 2013; her sisters: Gertrude Simons, Dora Tyrrell, Anna Engelen, Catherine Anthofer, Mary Simons, Barbara Tigges, and Elizabeth Tigges; her brothers: Herman, William, John, and Joe Scharfenkamp; and two brothers in infancy: Peter and Anthony Scharfenkamp.
