Lois Schmitz, age 69, of Carroll, died Monday, February 28, 2022 at St. Anthony Regional Hospital in Carroll.
A funeral mass will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, July 29, 2022 at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Halbur. Music will be by the St. Augustine Choir. Lector will be Casey Schmitz. Gift Bearers will be Joyce Hinners and Mary Jane Oldham. Eucharistic Minister will be Connie Sapp. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 1:30 to 2 p.m. on Friday at St. Augustine Church. In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to New Hope Village in Carroll.

Lois, the daughter of Ambrose and Estella (Langel) Schmitz was born on September 22, 1952 at St. Anthony Hospital in Carroll, Iowa. Lois attended the former Iowa School for the blind in Vinton, Iowa. She later moved to the Woodward Resource Center before moving to New Hope Village in Clear Lake, Iowa.
When New Hope Village in Carroll opened in 1977, Lois moved there and was one of the first 18 clients. She lived in Misty Blue Cottage on the Campus. She later moved to the Dakota Street Home in Glidden where she resided for over 25 years. During her retirement, she moved to the Bass Street Home in Carroll.
Lois enjoyed belonging to the New Hope Village Choir, and listening to 60’s and 70’s music. She enjoyed going to Camp Courage. She had a love of horses and enjoyed riding them at Timber Creek Ranch. One of her favorite memories was traveling to Colorado and New York.
Lois is survived by her siblings Joan (Dave) Eickman of Macungie, PA, and Alan (Mary) Schmitz of Halbur; nieces and nephews: Sara Benham (Adam) and their children: Everett and Nora; Kyle Eickman (Jen) and their children: Max and Grace; Casey Schmitz, (Molly) with a child on the way; Sami Sapp (Shane) and their child Maggie; as well as many extended relatives and friends, including her New Hope Village Family.
Lois was preceded in death by her parents, Ambrose and Estella Schmitz.
The family would like to extend their sincere appreciation and gratitude to New Hope Village past and present staff for the loving care Lois received while in their care.
