Leota Pudenz, 89 of Carroll, died early Tuesday morning at St. Anthony Regional Hospital in Carroll.
Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:30 a.m. Friday, August 29, 2014, at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Carroll. The Celebrant will be Fr. Timothy Johnson. Music will be by Barb McDermott and the Holy Spirit Choir with John Wagner as soloist. Mass servers will be Leota’s great-grandchildren: Hannah Irlbeck, Emma Pinkelman, and Tessa Pinkelman. Lectors will be Leota’s grandchildren: Renee Brincks, Nick Pudenz, and Jeana Kanne. Gift bearers will be Leota’s grandchildren: Andy Pudenz, Stacey Wegner, Jodi Rupiper, and Jenny Barthole. Eucharistic ministers will be Joy Pinkelman, Theresa Pudenz, and Rick Boes. Honorary Casket bearers will be Leota’s grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Casket bearers will be Leota’s grandchildren: Will Pudenz, Jeff Pudenz, Joey Pudenz, Jill Dopheide, Todd Pudenz, and Ryan Schwabe. Burial will be at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Carroll.
Friends may call at the Sharp Funeral Home in Carroll on Thursday, after 4 p.m. where there will be a Rosary at 5 p.m. and a Christian Wake Service at 7 p.m.
The casket will be moved to Holy Spirit Church at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, where visitation will resume until the time of the funeral mass.

Born on May 8, 1925 at Carroll, Iowa, Leota was the daughter of Henry and Catherine (Schrad) Happe. She grew up in the Carroll area, and on May 17, 1942 she graduated from Carroll High School. On April 23, 1946 she was united in marriage to Edwin Pudenz at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Carroll. After their marriage the couple made their home on a farm north of Mt. Carmel. In 1958 the couple moved to a farm near Lidderdale, where Leota was active in the farming operation. The couple then moved to Carroll in 1981 where they still resided. She was a devoted homemaker. Leota enjoyed sewing, quilting, crocheting, baking, puzzles, and gardening, but most of all, Leota enjoyed the time she spent with her family. She will be remembered for being a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Leota was a member of the Holy Spirit Ladies Guild, and Holy Spirit Catholic Church.
Left to cherish Leota’s life include her husband of 68 years, Edwin Pudenz of Carroll; children: Rollie (Gayle) Pudenz of Plainview, NE, Allen (Nancy) Pudenz of Carroll, Tom (Joyce) Pudenz of Glidden, Mary (Gerald) Dopheide of Carroll, Mark (Connie) Pudenz of Carroll, and Carol (Dean) Schwabe of Carroll; 21 grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren; her brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Julitta O’Tool of Lake City, Wilma Boes of Breda, Edna Knobbe of Rose Creek, MN, Rita (John) Hoebing of Columbus, NE, Richard (Bea) Pudenz of Carroll, Clarice Pudenz of Carroll, Jean Pudenz of Des Moines, Bernice Pudenz of Carroll, and Jim (Mary Ann) Pudenz of Carroll.
Leota was preceded in death by her parents; and her sisters: Jenny Happe, Mildred Schumacher, Lillian McNulty, and Viola Happe.
