Leonette Derner, 90 of Auburn, Iowa, died Friday, August 26, 2011 at St. Anthony Regional Hospital in Carroll.
Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, August 30, 2011 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Auburn. The Celebrant will be Fr. Lynn Bruch. Lector for the funeral mass will be Eugene Derner. Gift Bearers will be Leonette’s great-granddaughters: Caitlin Reis, Alexi Fasbender, Zoe Fasbender, and Coral Fasbender. Eucharistic Ministers will be Thelma Schroeder and Don and Peggy Derner. Casket Bearers will be Leonette’s grandsons: Ryan Fasbender and Tyler Fasbender, and Leonette’s great-grandsons: Blake Reis, Nick Reis, Colby Hemer, Colton Hemer, and Connor Hemer. Burial will be at St. Mary’s Cemetery near Auburn.
Friends may call at the Sharp Funeral Home in Carroll after 3:30 p.m., Monday, where there will be a rosary at 4 p.m., by the St. Mary’s Altar Society, and a Christian Wake Service by the parish at 6:30 p.m.

Born on November 19, 1920 at Lockridge, Iowa, Leonette was the daughter of John and Esther (Anderson) Reardon. She attended school in Earling and upon graduating moved to Auburn. On November 5, 1940 Leonette married E.A. “Eddie Derner” at St. Mary’s Church in Auburn. She worked at Reardon’s Grocery for 15 years which was owned by her aunt. Eddie and Leonette owned and operated Derner’s Tavern for 35 years. In her spare time she enjoyed sewing, quilting, ceramics, and also made stuffed dogs and gave them away, and most of all enjoyed spending time with her family. In 2004 Leonette moved to the Carroll Health Center where she loved getting to know the residents and the staff. She was a member of St. Mary’s Parish in Auburn, and the St. Mary’s Altar Society.
Survivors include her daughter, Patricia Fasbender and her husband Ed “Butch” of Carroll; four grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and one brother, Eugene John Reardon of Kentucky.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Eddie in April 1983; and one sister, Bernadine Peterson.
