Leonard Klocke, age 83, of Carroll, Iowa, died Wednesday, October 20, 2010, at Mercy Hospital Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa.
Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1 P.M., Saturday, October 23, 2010, at St. Lawrence Church in Carroll. The Celebrant will be Father Timothy Schott. Lector will be Chelsea Klocke. Gift Bearers will be Kendra Klocke, Brenda Winship, and Rachel Brincks. Mass Servers will be Ryan Klocke, Tyler Schultes, and Colby Vetter. Eucharistic Ministers will be Mary Lou Gehling, Ray Reineke, and Mary Klocke. Casket Bearers will be Mark Reineke, Jason Klocke, Nick Klocke, Zach Klocke, Steven Brincks, and James Klocke. Burial will be at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Carroll.
Friends may call after 3:30 P.M. Friday at St. Lawrence Church in Carroll. A rosary will be prayed at 4 P.M. Friday. There will be a Christian wake service at 7 P.M. Friday by St. Lawrence Parish. Visitation will resume at 10 A.M. Saturday at the Sharp Funeral Home in Carroll.
Leonard was born on August 29, 1927, at Dedham, Iowa, the son of Anton A. and Anna (Golwitzer) Klocke. He attended St. Joseph School in Dedham graduating with the Class of 1941. Following his formal education he farmed with his Father. Leonard and Leona Bierl were married on April 26, 1949, at St. Joseph Church in Dedham with Father Henry Pick officiating. The couple farmed south of Willey and also farmed his Father’s Century Farm in the same area. Leonard and Leona moved to their home in Carroll in 1992. He was a member of St. Lawrence Parish and former member of St. Mary Parish at Willey. He was former Board Member of the Carroll County Cattlemen’s Association, Carroll County Pork Producers, Carroll County Conservation Commission, St. Mary Parish Board, and Kuemper High School Finance Board. Leonard enjoyed his family, especially his grandchildren, farming, and playing cards.
Survivors include his wife, Leona Klocke of Carroll; his children, Janice Reineke and husband Ray of Council Bluffs, Dale Klocke and wife Mary of Dedham, Kenneth Klocke and wife Deb of Mt. Carmel, Denise Brincks and husband Maury of Appleton, Wisc., Marilyn Schultes and husband Matt of Johnston, Gene Klocke and wife Chris of Carroll, and Daryl Klocke and wife Cheryl of Dedham; a daughter-in-law, Sue Klocke of Audubon; 24 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; his brothers, Wilbur “Bert” Klocke and wife Louise of Carroll, and Ronald Klocke and wife Linda of Mankato, Minn.; sisters, Lavina Kieser of Long Grove, Illinois, Dorothy Schon and husband Bill of Glidden, and Annabelle Fox and husband Jack of Templeton; and sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Mary Lou and Larry Gehling of Westside, and Joyce and Tom Ruffino of Omaha, Nebraska.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Allen Klocke; a grandson, Timothy Brincks; brothers, Bernard Klocke and Alfred B. Klocke; and a sister, Loretta Greving.
