Laura Boes, age 97, of Breda, Iowa, died Saturday, February 14, 2009, at St. Anthony Regional Hospital in Carroll. Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 A.M., Tuesday, February 17, 2009, at St. Bernard Church in Breda. The Celebrant will be her son, Father Clair Boes. Con-celebrant will be Father Joe Dillinger. Lector will be a granddaughter, Catherine Pudenz. Gift Bearers will be daughters, Myrna Snyder, Carol Malone, and Susan Schreier. Casket Bearers will be her sons, Duane Boes, Dennis Boes, Ardel Boes, Eldon Boes, and Merlin Boes, and son-in-law, Dennis Schreier. Burial will be at St. Bernard Cemetery in Breda. Friends may call after 3:30 P.M. Monday at St. Bernard Church in Breda. A rosary will be prayed at 4 P.M. Monday by St. Bernard Ladies Guild. There will be a Christian wake service at 7 P.M. Monday by St. Bernard Parish. Visitation will resume at 8:30 A.M. Tuesday at the Church. Mrs. Boes was born on May 16, 1911, at Carnarvon, Iowa, the daughter of Hilary and Eugenia (Studer) Engel. She spent her younger years in the Carnarvon community and attended rural school, Wall Lake School, and graduated from St. Angela Academy in Carroll. Following her formal education she performed domestic work in the area. On May 17, 1932, she was married to William M. Boes at St. Joseph Church in Wall Lake with Father Slattery officiating. The couple farmed northwest of Breda until 1979 when they moved to their home in Breda. Mrs. Boes moved to Sunnybrook Assisted Living in Carroll in November 2008. She was a member of St. Bernard Parish and Parish Ladies Guild. Mrs. Boes had a special devotion to the Blessed Mother and enjoyed her family, sewing, quilting, baking, flowers, gardening, playing cards, and traveling with her husband. Survivors include her children, Myrna Snyder and her husband Clair of Breda, Duane Boes of Ft. Collins, Colo., Dennis Boes and his wife Jan of St. Louis, Missouri, Ardel Boes and his wife Mary of Golden, Colo., Father Clair Boes of Rockwell City, Eldon Boes and his wife Joan of Alexandria, Virginia, Carol Malone of Omaha, Nebr., Merlin Boes and his wife Connie of Austin, Minn., and Susan Schreier and her husband Dennis of Roscoe, Illinois; 24 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; 1 great great grandchild; and sisters, Viola Johnson of Carroll, and Alma Cejka of Pocahontas. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, William Boes, in 1998; grandchildren, Brett M. Boes and Chad W. Malone; son-in-law, Barry Malone; daughter-in-law, Joan Boes; a sister, Esther Reising; and brothers, Raymond, Vernon, and Lawrence Engel.
