Larry Behrens, 86, of Carroll, passed away on Saturday, January 25, 2025, at his home in Carroll.
Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 AM on Saturday, February 1, 2025, at Holy Spirit Church – St. John Paul II Parish, 421 Bluff Street East in Carroll. The Celebrant will be Father Patrick Behm. Pall Bearers are Justin Johnson, Josh Johnson, Breann Johnson, Nicole Behrens, Christine Behrens, Tyler Douglass, Kaitlyn Douglass and Jacob Douglass. Lectors will be Don Hoffmann and Laura Danner. Gift bearers will be Tyler Douglass, Kaitlyn Douglass and Jacob Douglass. Eucharistic Minister will be Wayne Reiman. Music will be provided by Kathy Halbur and the Holy Spirit Choir. Burial with military honors will be by Arcadia American Legion Post 694 in Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Carroll.
Visitation will be from 9 AM until 10:45 AM on Saturday at Holy Spirit Church.

Larry Derriel, son of Cyril and Helen (Reiman) Behrens, was born December 1, 1938, in Carroll Iowa. He grew up on the family farm just outside of Halbur, attending schools in Halbur and Arcadia, graduating from Kuemper High School in 1956.
Larry then enlisted with the U.S. Army and served in Washington State in the Military Police and shot expert on the 6th Army Marksmanship Team. After serving two years, he returned to Carroll County.
On January 19, 1963, Larry was united in marriage with Virginia Schenkelberg. Larry and Virginia were blessed with 5 children. Larry worked at local Co-ops before settling in at Crouse Cartage for 30 years, working as a billing clerk at nights. He farmed during the day raising cows and pigs and farming the land. Larry retired from Crouse Cartage in 1996, and he and Virginia moved into Carroll in 2006.

Larry was a member of Holy Spirit Church and enjoyed attending sporting events of Kuemper and his grandchildren. He also liked traveling to Charlotte, North Carolina and Ozark, Missouri.
Larry is survived by his wife Virginia Behrens; five children: Lauri Behrens, Marty Behrens, Cheryl (Denny) Johnson, Vicki Douglass, and Russell Behrens; eight grandchildren: Justin (Megan) Johnson, Joshua (Aisha) Johnson, Breann (fiancé Paige Mitchell); Nicole Behrens, Christine (fiancé Jordan Rozenboom), and Tyler, Kaitlyn & Jacob Douglass; ten great-grandchildren: Hayden, Landon, Jackson, Blakely, Emma & Colson Johnson; Kenray & Connor Behrens, Noah & Kora Rozenboom; a sister Sandy Schutt; a brother Bob (Audrey) Behrens and several nieces and nephews.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents Cyril & Helen Behrens; brothers-in-Law Clint Schutt & Al Schenkelberg; a daughter-in-law Karen Behrens and Virginia’s parents Irish & Jean Schenkelberg.
