Kevin Boes

Kevin Boes, 73 of Carroll, died Sunday, July 26, 2026 surrounded by his loving family at his home in Carroll. Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m., Friday, July 31, 2026 at Holy Spirit Church – St. John Paul II Parish in Carroll. The Celebrant will be Fr. Merlin Schrad. Music will be by Jane Heithoff and Kathy Halbur. Lectors for the Funeral Mass will be Ann Staiert and Trish Baumhover. Gift Bearers will be Kevin’s granddaughters. Eucharistic Minister will be Dave Staiert. Casket Bearers will be Spencer Davis, Cody Wenck, Scott Steinkamp, Mason Steinkamp, Caden Wenck, and Jackson Davis. Burial will follow in Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Cemetery in Mt. Carmel with military honors conducted by the Breda American Legion. A visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. on Thursday at the Sharp Funeral Home in Carroll. The casket will be moved to Holy Spirit Church on Friday morning where additional visitation will be from 9:30-10:15 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be left at the funeral home or the church for a later designation. Kevin was born on January 14, 1953, in Carroll, Iowa, Kevin was a cherished son of Leonard and Nina Boes of Breda, Iowa. After attending high school, he answered the call to serve his country by joining the United States Navy on March 10, 1970. During his two years of service, he was stationed in Jacksonville, Florida, where he honed his skills and developed a strong work ethic that would carry him through life. After his military service, Kevin was a skilled construction worker and later a journeyman carpenter, dedicating many years to his craft until his retirement in 2013. His work was not just a means of livelihood; it was a testament to his ability to shape and create, leaving lasting impressions in both his professional and personal life. On February 7, 1975, Kevin married the love of his life, Diane Bernholtz, at St. Bernard's Catholic Church in Breda, Iowa. Together, they built a family rooted in love, laughter, and shared adventures while raising their four children, Sarah, Jill, Jennifer, and Ryan. Kevin's joy was in the time he spent with his family. His days were filled with the simple pleasures of life: watching his grandchildren's activities with pride, grilling, spending time at the family farm, indulging in endless fix-it projects, bird watching, and tending his garden. He was a member of the Breda American Legion Post 607 and a parishioner at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, where he found community and purpose. Kevin will be remembered for his unique sense of humor, his signature mustache, and the unwavering pride he took in his family. His laughter and love will live in the hearts of those he touched, serving as a reminder of the joy he brought to those around him. Kevin is survived by his wife, Diane Boes of Carroll, IA, Sarah (Spencer) Davis of Carroll, IA, Jill (Cody) Wenck of Glidden, IA, Jennifer (Scott) Steinkamp of Chanhassen, MN, and Ryan (Crystal) Boes of Glidden, IA. He took immense pride in his role as a grandfather to ten beautiful grandchildren: Kaia, Addison, and Jackson Davis; Caden, Kassidy, and Karigan Wenck; Mason and Harper Steinkamp; and Emerson and Peyson Boes. Kevin is also survived by: his brothers John (Carol) Boes, Keith (Kelley) Boes, Bryan (Deylnn) Boes, brothers-in-law Ted Underberg and Larry Brincks, mother-in-law June Bernholtz, sister-in-law Ann (Dave) Staiert, and brother-in-law Alan (Rose) Bernholtz, along with many other family members and friends who will all carry on his legacy of kindness and humor. Kevin was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Leonard and Nina Boes; his siblings, Tom Boes and, wife, Karen; Lynne Ann Brincks, Diane Rouff and, husband, Bill, Kathleen Underberg, Rhonda Boes, and father-in-law Glenn Bernholtz.
