John Holland, 89 of Carroll, Iowa, died Thursday, August 18, 2011 at St. Anthony Nursing Home in Carroll.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m., Tuesday, August 23, 2011 at the Sharp Funeral Home in Carroll. Officiating will be Fr. Timothy Johnson from Holy Spirit Parish in Carroll. The family will receive friends beginning at 2 p.m., until service time. Burial will be at a later date at Forest Hills Cemetery in Aurora, Minnesota.

Born on May 14, 1922 at Vail, Iowa, John L. Holland was the son of John and Blanche (Lorenzen) Holland. He spent his younger years in the Vail area and attended St. Ann’s School in Vail, graduating in 1940. Upon graduating John served in the United States Army during WWII. John attended Creighton Law School while raising three children and after graduating he practiced law for a brief time in Nebraska. John then worked for the Federal Trade Commission in Kansas City. In 1960 he moved to Aurora, Minnesota and opened his own practice where he served as the attorney for many surrounding municipalities, and many banks. After 32 years of practicing law John retired in 1992. In 2005, John moved to Carroll and lived at Orchard View, and then St. Anthony Nursing Home where he died on Thursday at the age of 89. Family was very important to John and he never missed an opportunity to let them know how much he loved them.
Survivors include two sons: John D. Holland of Dundas, Minnesota, and Patrick (Laurel) Holland of Savage, Minnesota; 9 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; his daughter in-law, Christine Holland of Minneapolis, Minnesota; one brother, William “Pat” (Helen) Holland of Riverside, California; three sisters: Sister Jean “Joan of Arc” Holland of Clinton, Carol (Dr. Frank) Cavano of Okatie, South Carolina, Cathy (Mike) Clausen of Wright City, Missouri; as well as many nieces, nephews and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Florence; daughter Linda; two sons: Charles and James; grandson Jude; and his siblings: Joe, Frank, Jim, Rev. Dale, and Doyle Holland, and Mary Alice Lawler
