John “Jack” Grimsman, 91 of Carroll, died early Friday morning, May 20, 2016 at St. Anthony Nursing Home in Carroll.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 24, 2016 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Carroll. Officiating will be Pastor Brian Licht. Organist will be Jan Hoff. Soloist will be Jack’s granddaughter, Sarah Paulson. Burial will be in the Carroll City Cemetery.
Visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Paul Lutheran Church and continue until time of the funeral service.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be left at the church for St. Anthony Hospice or a charity of choice.

Born on November 28, 1924 at Carroll, Iowa, John was the son of Harry and Augusta (Boldt) Grimsman. Jack was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church in Arcadia by Pastor Tews. He spent his younger years on his family’s farm northwest of Halbur where he attended country school. In 1942, Jack graduated from Carroll High School.
On June 27, 1949, he was united in marriage to Gloria Schulte in Carroll, Iowa. Together they raised three children. Jack had various jobs; Matt Furniture Store, Coast to Coast, an agent for Chicago Great Western Railroad, Schroeder Construction, as well as an electrician for Prentiss Electric and Glass Electric. Jack later owned and operated his own business, Grimsman Electric.
He loved dancing and music. Jack sang with the church choir, Elks Chorus and with the RSVP singers. He was always happy to play his harmonica. Each morning he enjoyed meeting his friends for coffee. He had many friends and always had a joke to tell. Jack will be remembered as a kind loving husband, father, and grandfather. He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Carroll.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 66 years, Gloria Grimsman of Carroll; two daughters: Deb (Bruce) Droessler of Maquoketa, and Denise (Joe Graham) Grimsman of Washington, DC; his son Doug (Karla) Grimsman of Iowa City; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; his brother, Duane Grimsman of California; his sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law: Betty Mason Grimsman of Lake View, Grace (Doc) Langenfeld of Carroll, Cyril (Hilda) Schulte of Carroll, and Jerry Schulte of Marshalltown; as well as many nieces, nephews, other extended relatives and many friends.
Jack was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Arlene Holverstott; and his brother, Vernus Grimsman.
