John Hannasch, 75 of Carroll, died Tuesday, December 11, 2012 at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa.
Mass of the Christian Burial for will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, December 14, 2012 at Holy Spirit Church in Carroll. The Celebrant will be Fr. Timothy Johnson. Music will be by Barb McDermott and the Holy Spirit Choir. Lector for the funeral mass will be Phil Phillips. Gift Bearers will be Jane Walters and Jeanne Kurfman. Eucharistic Ministers will be Phil and Michele Phillips. Casket Bearers will be: Mark Hannasch, Tom Hannasch, John Hannasch, Gerry Kraus, Rob Hermsen, and Marty Kanne. Burial will be at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Carroll.
Friends may call at the Sharp Funeral Home in Carroll after 4:30 p.m. on Thursday where there will be a rosary at 5 p.m. and a Christian Wake Service at 7 p.m. by Holy Spirit Parish.
The casket will be moved to Holy Spirit Church at 9 a.m. on Friday where visitation will resume until time of the funeral mass. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Sharp Funeral Home in Carroll and online condolences may be left for John’s family at www.sharpfuneral.com.
Born on May 31, 1937 at Carroll, Iowa, John was the son of John B. and Leota (Murphy) Hannasch. He attended grade school at Holy Angels in Roselle and later graduated from Kuemper High School in Carroll. John served for a brief time in the United States Army and then returned to the Carroll Community. Throughout his lifetime, he had several jobs in the Carroll area and also did volunteer work for various organizations. John was an avid fan and supporter of Kuemper Athletics and also enjoyed a good card game. He was a member of Holy Spirit Parish in Carroll where he served as an usher for several years.
Survivors include his brothers: Claire (Lota) Hannasch of Tracy, MN, and Charles (Dorothy) Hannasch of Lincoln, NE; his sisters: Marcella Kanne of Carroll, Mary Elaine Milbauer of Milwaukee, WI, and Caroline Hermsen of Omaha, NE; his sisters-in-law: Joan Hannasch of Rosemount, MN, Rachel Hannasch of Greenville, PA, Shirley Hannasch of Huntington Station, NY, and Jan Hannasch of Omaha, NE; as well as many nieces, nephews, and many friends.
John was preceded in death by his parents; brothers: Jerome, Paul, Art, and George Hannasch; and his brothers-in-law: James Kanne and Dick Milbauer.
