Joan, daughter of Albert and Cecilia (Miller) Nagl, was born on August 30, 1959, in Carroll, Iowa. Joan grew up in Carroll, graduating from Kuemper High School before attending Iowa State University in Ames.
Joan was a loving wife to Steve Kanne of Carroll during their marriage of 37 years, and a devoted daughter, sister, and aunt. She was an avid reader who enjoyed art, music and dance, having studied piano and ballet as a child. She loved Steve’s garden and the wildlife visitors it brought to their yard, especially the squirrels. A favorite pastime was Sunday morning rides around Swan Lake with Steve, watching for deer, ducks and geese.
Joan was a loyal employee of Taco John’s in Carroll, a job she enjoyed for over 30 years. Her customers were important to her, and she knew so many of them by name. She had a warm sense of humor, which she shared with her customers. Joan also left her mark on the next generation – her kids, as she called them. She lost track over the years of just how many she trained to work at Taco John’s.
Joan is survived by her husband Steve; a sister-in-law Judy Nagl of Overland Park, Kansas; and nieces and nephews: Emily Nohr from Overland Park; Sarah Hanan (John) from Richardson, Texas; John Nagl (Shawn) from Carlisle, Pennsylvania; Luke Nagl (Jennifer) of Overland Park; Matthew Nagl (Stephanie) of Merriam, Kansas; and Mark Nagl of Overland Park; one great-niece and four great-nephews. Joan is also survived by Steve’s family: sister-in-law Susan (Kanne) Rublein of Minneapolis, MN; nephew, Aaron Rublein of Houston, TX, and nieces, Amanda (Josh Wenzel) Rublein of Minneapolis, and Abby (Justin) Hanson of Lonsdale, MN; including one great-nephew and two great-nieces of Minnesota. Joan also leaves the entire Carroll Taco John’s family and friends, who were all very special to her.
