Gerald “Jerry” Irlbeck, 74, of Templeton, died Tuesday, April 28, 2015 at St. Anthony Regional Hospital in Carroll surrounded by his family.
Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, May 2, 2015 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Templeton. The Celebrant will be Fr. Steven Brodersen. Music will be by Jeanne Kerkhoff and the Sacred Heart Men’s Choir. Mass servers will be Ethan Irlbeck and Hannah Irlbeck. Lectors will be Andru Meiners, Makinze Nichols, and Mathu Meiners. Gift Bearers will be Kim Irlbeck, Brian Bruch, and Craig Promes. Eucharistic Ministers will be Donna Kemper, Terry Romey and Peg Scheidt. Casket Bearers will be Michael Kohorst, Tyler Kohorst, Chris Irlbeck, Kelly Irlbeck, Kenzie Stork, Bret Stork, Katie Bierbrodt, Nicole Bruch, Stacey Bruch, Sean Promes, and Nathan Promes. Burial will be in the parish cemetery, with military honors conducted by the Dedham American Legion.
Friends may call at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Templeton after 4:00 p.m. on Friday where there will be a rosary at 5 p.m., and a Christian Wake Service at 7 p.m.
Visitation will resume at 9:30 a.m., Saturday morning at Sacred Heart Church until the time of the funeral mass.

Born on August 27, 1940 at Templeton, Iowa, Gerald Lee was the son of Leo and Helen (Wuebker) Irlbeck. He grew up near Templeton and graduated from Sacred Heart High School in 1958. After graduation, Jerry proudly served his country in the United States Navy from 1958 until his honorable discharge in 1961. Jerry returned to the Gray and Templeton area where he began farming. On January 27, 1962 he was united in marriage to Sandra Hinders at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Templeton. The couple made their home in the Gray area before moving to the Irlbeck family farm northeast of Templeton. In 2003, the couple moved into the Templeton community; in 2007 Jerry retired from the farming operation.
Jerry enjoyed golfing, playing cards, the Chicago Cubs, and Iowa Hawkeyes. He also enjoyed fast pitch and slow pitch softball, where he was inducted into the Iowa Slow Pitch Hall of Fame. Most of all Jerry enjoyed socializing with his friends, and spending time with his family. Jerry was a member of the Dedham American Legion, serving as past commander, and Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Templeton.
Left to celebrate Jerry’s life is his wife Sandy of Templeton; his children: Tammy Kohorst of Arcadia, Jeff (Kim) Irlbeck of Carroll, Nancy (Brian) Bruch of Audubon, and Julie (Craig) Promes of Denison; his grandchildren: Chris (special friend Sarah Culligan) Irlbeck, Kelly Irlbeck, Kenzie (fiancé Adam Wittrock) Stork, Bret Stork, Michael (Lindsey) Kohorst, Tyler Kohorst, Katie (Daniel) Bierbrodt, Nicole (fiancé Sean Bicknase) Bruch, Stacey (special friend Bryce Tessman) Bruch, Sean (Kim) Promes, and Nathan Promes; four great-grandchildren: Baylie Schulte, Brynna Schulte, Brycee Kohorst, Cade Bierbrodt; his brother Clete (Wilma) Irlbeck of Omaha, NE; a sister-in-law: Arlene (Wayne) Justice of Manning; and many nieces, nephews, and other extended relatives.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents; his step-mother, Mary (Hannasch) Irlbeck, a son-in-law, Marlan Kohorst, and his brother Orville Irlbeck.
