Jerome Koster, 82, of Breda, died early Friday morning, November 6, 2015 at St. Anthony Nursing Home in Carroll.
A funeral mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, November 9, 2015 at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church in Breda. The Celebrant will be Fr. Gary Snyder. Music will be by Marilyn Hundling at the St. Bernard’s Choir. Lectors will be Pat Koster, and Doris Scanlan. Gift Bearers will be Jason Koster, Jacob Koster, and Janet Koster. Eucharistic Minister will be Jean Grote. Burial will be at St. Bernard’s Cemetery in Breda with military honors conducted by the Breda American Legion.
Friends may call at the Sharp Funeral Home in Breda after 3:30 p.m. on Sunday where there will be a Christian Wake Service held at 5 p.m.

Born on November 15, 1932 at Breda, Iowa, Jerome Leo was the son of Clemens and Hazel (Van Erdewyk) Koster. Jerome grew up in the Breda community and graduated from St. Bernard’s High School in 1950. Following his schooling he assisted his family with their farm operation. Jerome served in the United States Army and upon his honorable discharge returned to Iowa. He attended Iowa State College where he met his future wife Jean. On August 8, 1959 Jerome was united in marriage to Wilda Jean Ann Black at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Des Moines, Iowa.
Following their marriage Jerome and Jean lived in California and in 1965 moved back to the Midwest where they resided on an acreage near Stanton. Jerome was a Soil Scientist and later became District Conservationist, working for Soil Conservation Service until his retirement in 1986. They later moved back to the Breda community. He enjoyed making bread, auctions, fishing, hunting, woodworking and especially crafting furniture for children. Jerome was a member of St. Bernard’s Parish and the Breda American Legion.
Survivors include his children: Jeffery (Denise) Koster of Rochester, MN, and Jennifer Koster of Breda; three grandchildren: Jason Koster, Jacob Koster, and Janet Koster; his siblings: Edgar Koster of Minneapolis, MN, Fr. Dale Koster of Carroll, Alma Schroeder of Elma, Anita (Duane) Hannasch of Carroll, Urban (Pat) Koster of Breda, Norma Jean Ludwig of Denison, Myrna (Van) Schmidt of Three Forks, MT, and Alice Thielen of Carroll; his brother-in-law: Otmar Bierl of Arcadia; special friends: Kevin and Lynn Irlbeck and their children; Marne, Payton, Bianca, and Carter; and Jeff and Nancy Pudenz; as well as other extended relatives and many friends.
Jerome was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Wilda Jean Koster; his brother Floyd Koster; and his sisters: Helen Bertrand, Pearl Staiert, and Elaine Bierl.
