James Simons, age 45, of Carroll, Iowa, died Sunday evening, June 1, 2008, at Creighton University Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska, following an extended illness. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 9:30 A.M., Saturday, June 7, 2008, at St. Lawrence Church in Carroll. The Celebrant will be Father Timothy Schott. Lector will be Paul Simons. Gift Bearers will be Claire, Elyse, and Olivia Simons. Eucharistic Ministers will be Dolora Brincks, Diane Hannasch, and Ann Christiansen. Burial will be at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Carroll. Friends may call at the Sharp Funeral Home in Carroll from 5 P.M. until 8 P.M. Friday. There will be a Christian wake service at 7 P.M. Friday by St. Lawrence Parish. Memorials may be left at the funeral home or church for the Kuemper Catholic Schools Foundation or Birthright of Carroll. Mr. Simons was born on March 4, 1963, at Carroll, Iowa, the son of Marvin J. and Kathleen (Tigges) Simons. He spent most of his lifetime in the Carroll community and graduated from Kuemper High School in 1981. He attended Briar Cliff University in Sioux City for two years and then returned to Carroll to help with the family’s farm operation. He was a member of St. Lawrence Parish and enjoyed his family, hunting, and fishing. Survivors include his mother, Kathleen Simons of Carroll; sisters, Sarah Reed and her husband Jeffery of Chicago, Ill., Mary Ann Vea and her husband Lynn of Mokena, Ill., and Ramona Fennell and her husband Daniel of Eden Prairie, Minn.; brothers, Peter Simons and his wife Marcia Whited of Carroll, John Simons of Glidden, Paul Simons and his wife Margaret Mary of Chicago, Ill., and Matthew Simons and his wife Trista of West Des Moines; and eleven nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Marvin Simons in 2004; a brother, Henry Simons in 1977; and his grandparents, Henry J. and Clara Simons and Clem and Leona Tigges.
