James Collison, 93 of Carroll, died Wednesday, March 21, 2012 at St. Anthony Regional Hospital in Carroll.
Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Monday, March 26, 2012 at Holy Spirit Church in Carroll. The Celebrant will be Fr. Timothy Johnson. Music will be by Barb McDermott and the Holy Spirit Choir. Lector for the funeral mass will be Kathy Ramaekers. Gift Bearers will be Jim’s daughters, Joan Ries and Carmen Collison. Eucharistic Minister will be Roberta Tigges. Casket Bearers will be Jim’s grandchildren: Beth Walker, Fred Collison, Carl Collison, Maggie Collison, Robert Collison, Natalie Ries, Grady Ries, Ellen Collison, James Collison, and Katie Sell. Burial will be at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Carroll with military honors conducted by the Carroll American Legion.
Friends may call at the Sharp Funeral Home in Carroll after 3 p.m. on Sunday where there will be a rosary at 4 p.m. and a Christian Wake Service by Holy Spirit Parish at 6 p.m. The casket will be moved to Holy Spirit Church at 9 a.m. on Monday where visitation will resume until time of the funeral mass. Memorials may be left at the funeral home or the church for Kuemper Catholic Schools Foundation in memory of Jim and Freda Collison or the Freda A. Collison Memorial Nursing Scholarship Fund at DMACC.

Born on May 16, 1918 at Carroll, Iowa, James A. was the son of Fred and Gail (Guilford) Collison. He spent his lifetime in the Carroll Community and attended St. Joseph Grade School, later graduating from Carroll High School in 1936. Jim served during World War II in the United States Army and was honorably discharged in 1946. On October 4, 1948 he married Freda Tigges at St. Mary’s Church in Willey. Following their marriage they made their home in Carroll and farmed the family farm west of Carroll, retiring in 1986. Jim loved farming, playing cribbage, reading, listening to music, and spending time with his grandchildren. He was a great supporter of the Carroll Tigers and Kuemper Knights Athletics and also served on numerous committees at Kuemper Catholic Schools. Jim was a member of the Carroll County Historical Society, Foster Grandparent Program/RSVP, Carroll American Legion, Maurice Dunn Post # 7, and Holy Spirit Parish in Carroll.
Survivors include his children: Dr. Patrick Collison and his wife Jeanne of Yankton, SD, Bill Collison and his wife Cathy of Grosse Pointe, MI, Joan Ries and her husband Tom of Alexandria, MN, Gene Collison of Carroll, Jim Collison and his wife Deb of Carroll, and Carmen Collison of Des Moines; ten grandchildren: Beth Walker, Fred Collison, Carl Collison, Maggie Collison, Robert Collison, Natalie Ries, Grady Ries, Ellen Collison, James Collison, and Katie Sell; four great-grandchildren: Devon Walker, Grace Walker, Hayden Walker and Addison Sell; as well as other extended relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Freda in March of 2006; and two brothers: Joseph and Gene Collison.
