Hilaria “Lari” (Engelen) O’Herron, age 87 of Mesa, Arizona and formerly of Carroll, Iowa, passed away on Feb 13, 2020 at her home in Mesa, Arizona after a short illness.
A private family memorial service will be held at St. Bridget’s Catholic Church on February 18, 2020 at 10 a.m. in Mesa, Arizona with Fr. Charlie Parker presiding.
A private burial will be at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Carroll, Iowa at a later date.

Hilaria, the daughter of Henry and Clara (Koch) Engelen was born on March 13, 1932 in Carroll, Iowa. She grew up in Carroll and graduated from Carroll High School in 1950.
On June 17, 1952, she was united in marriage to her high school sweetheart James (Jim) O’Herron at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Carroll.
Lari will be remembered as a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She loved her family immensely and enjoyed spending time with all of them. She loved to talk and visit with everyone, even if they were strangers. Facebook and playing “Word Chums” on her I Pad were her most recent hobbies, even though she suffered from macular degeneration.
Survivors include her husband Jim of Mesa, her children; Jane (Randy) Bierl of Carroll Iowa, Terry (Terry) Settje of Olathe Kansas, Scott (Amy) O’Herron of San Tan Valley Arizona, Tom (Marian) O’Herron of Mesa Arizona and Kelly (Cameron) Normoyle of Gilbert Arizona, thirteen grandchildren; Corey (Molly) Bierl of Shawnee, Kansas, Kelly (Aaron) Pick of Carroll, Iowa, Chris Bierl of West Des Moines, Iowa, Colby Settje of Overland Park, Kansas , Julie (Seth) Powers of Kansas City, Missouri, Erik O’Herron of San Tan Valley, Arizona, Kylie Ann (Josh) Keegan of San Tan Valley, Arizona, Zach (Cynthia) O’Herron of Mesa, Arizona, Taylor (Caesar) Mendez of Queen Creek , Arizona, Claire O’Herron of Mesa, Arizona, Cole (Kayla) Normoyle of Gilbert, Arizona, Haley (Carter) Wolf of Costa Mesa, California, McKayla (Elijah) Campton of Mesa, Arizona and fifteen great-grandchildren. Sisters, Joyce Baumhover and Jan (Denny) Boes; Brothers, Marv Engelen and Bill (Kathy) Engelen. Brother-in-law Ron (Sheri) O’Herron and Sister-in-law Mari (Doug) Polking as well as many nieces and nephews.
Lari was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Clara Engelen; her parents-in-law Donald (Scotty) and Irene O’Herron; her sister Delores Schulz; her brother in-law Larry Baumhover; her sister in-laws: Marihelen Engelen and Linda (Ron) O’Herron; a niece Tammy Schulz; and a sister in infancy Mardella Engelen.
