Helen Behrens, 98 of Halbur, died Wednesday, December 18, 2013 at St. Anthony Regional Hospital in Carroll.
Mass of the Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, December 21, 2013 at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Halbur. The Celebrant will be Fr. Steven Brodersen. Music will be by Julie Sibbel and the St. Augustine Choir. Lectors for the funeral mass will be Helen’s grandchildren: Lauri Behrens, Jeff Behrens, and Shane Schutt. Gift Bearers will be Helen’s granddaughters’: Lauri Behrens, Cheryl Johnson, and Vicki Douglass. Eucharistic Minister will be Helen’s daughter in-law: Audrey Behrens. Casket Bearers will be Helen’s grandsons’: Marty Behrens, Russell Behrens, Jeff Behrens, Dan Behrens, Kevin Behrens, Jerry Behrens, Mike Behrens, and Shane Schutt. Burial will be in St. Augustine Cemetery in Halbur. The Templeton Catholic Daughters of the Americas will form an honor guard for the funeral mass.
Friends may call at St. Augustine Church in Halbur after 3:30 p.m. on Friday where there will be a rosary at 4 p.m. by the Templeton Catholic Daughters of the Americas and a Christian Wake Service at 7 p.m. by the parish. Visitation will resume at 9 a.m. Saturday at the church until time of the funeral mass.

Helen was born on April 8, 1915 at Templeton, Iowa the daughter of Joseph and Anne (Schoeppner) Reiman. She spent her younger years in the Templeton area and attended Sacred Heart School. On February 5, 1936 Helen married Cyril Behrens at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Templeton. The couple farmed near Templeton and Halbur and later purchased a farm south of Halbur where they made their home. In 1976 they moved into Halbur where Helen resided until she became a resident at SunnyBrook of Carroll for the past five years. She enjoyed her morning coffee group, attending daily mass, and tending to her flower garden. Helen was very active with the rosary makers group, Templeton Catholic Daughters of the Americas, St. Augustine Parish, Parish Ladies Guild, and also volunteered at St. Augustine School for over 18 years.
Survivors include her children: Larry Behrens and his wife Virginia of Carroll, Bob Behrens and his wife Audrey of Manning, and Sandy Schutt and her husband Clint of Omaha, NE; her grandchildren: Lauri Behrens, Marty Behrens, Cheryl Johnson, Vicki Douglass, Russell Behrens, Jeff Behrens, Dan Behrens, Kevin Behrens, Jerry Behrens, Mike Behrens, and Shane Schutt; 14 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; and many nieces, nephews, and other extended relatives.
Helen was preceded in death by her parents; husband Cyril in 1990; and her siblings: Ed Reiman, Hilda Miller, W.M. Reiman, Joseph Reiman Jr, Neil Reiman, Walter Reiman, Leona Drees, Leonard Reiman, Anne Reiman, and Loretta Reiman.
