Born on February 24, 1920 at Arcadia, Iowa, Gerhard B. was the son of Gerhard and Anna (Weber) Mueggenberg. He spent his entire lifetime in the Breda area and attended country school there. On June 10, 1941 he was married to Evelyn Krogman at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Halbur by Fr. Kramer. Gerd was a grain and livestock farmer his entire life at the family farm southwest of Breda. In 1978 Gerd and Evelyn moved into Breda although he still remained active in the farm operation. Gerd loved his red tractors, shelling corn, and feeding the cattle. He also enjoyed gardening, playing cards, cooking, but his greatest joy was spending time with his family. Gerd was very proud of his children’s accomplishments, loved all his grandkids and referred to all of them as “Charlie.” Throughout his lifetime he was active in St. Bernard’s Parish where he served as parish director and was a strong supporter of Kuemper Catholic Schools.
