Born on July 14, 1917 at Dedham, Iowa, Frances was the daughter of George and Mary (Hackfort) Grossman. She spent her early years in the Dedham area until her family moved to Willey. Frances attended St. Mary’s School and following her schooling she worked at Greteman’s General Store for a brief time. For her entire lifetime Frances’ true dedication was to the St. Mary’s Parish where she was the Sacristan, and also was a homemaker at the rectory. Frances was honored at the Willey Quasqui-Centennial by being named Co-Grand Marshal for the celebration. She enjoyed cooking, gardening, sewing, and being active in the Willey Community and the St. Mary Parish. Frances was able to stay at her home in Willey nearly her entire life thanks to the special care she received from Bonnie Wurzer, Sue Riesselman, and Mary Schreck. She was a member of the St. Mary’s Parish and the Parish Ladies Guild.
