Floyd Koster, 95, of Wymore, Nebraska and formerly of Breda, died Wednesday, November 13, 2013 at the Wymore Good Samaritan Center in Wymore, Nebraska.
A Funeral Mass will be held 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church in Breda. The Celebrant will be Fr. Gary Snyder. Music will be by Marilyn Hundling and the St. Bernard’s Choir. Lector for the funeral mass will be Pat Koster. Gift Bearers will be Floyd’s grandchildren. Eucharistic Minister will be Mike Braun. The Breda Catholic Order of Foresters will form an honor guard for the funeral mass. Burial will be in St. Bernard’s Cemetery in Breda with military honors conducted by the Breda American Legion.
Friends may call at the Sharp Funeral Home in Breda, after 5 p.m. Monday where there will be a Christian Wake Service by St. Bernard’s Parish at 6:30 p.m.

Floyd was born on August 6, 1918 at Breda, Iowa to Clemens and Hazel (Van Erdewyk) Koster. He graduated from St. Bernard School. He served in the United States Army during World War II. While stationed at Fort Ord in California, he met Teresa Garcia. When he was transferred to the European Theater, he told her he would return on Thanksgiving for her. It took four years, but he returned on Thanksgiving of 1945 and they were married on December 1, 1945. Floyd graduated from Iowa State University in 1949 with a degree in Agronomy. He started his career in the Soil Conservation service in Washington, Iowa. From there he became the first soil conservationist for Sioux County, Iowa. He lived in Alton, Iowa until he retired in 1976. He and Teresa moved to Breda, Iowa and spent the next 25 years wintering in Las Vegas, Nevada. At the age of 90, they moved to the Good Samaritan Center in Wymore, Nebraska to be closer to his daughter and great grandchildren.
Floyd was a lifetime member of the Catholic Order of Foresters and a 50 plus year member of the Breda American Legion, Fred F. and Norman J. Bruning Post #607. He was also a member for the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the Knights of Columbus and belonged to both St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Wymore and St. Bernard’s Catholic Church in Breda. He enjoyed wood working, carving, bowling, traveling, visiting his children and grandchildren, playing Keno and playing dominos with his great grandchildren.
Survivors include son Bruce Koster of Sioux Falls, SD; daughters Carol (Mike) Braun of Wymore, Nebraska, Donna (Tim) McBride of Fruitland, Idaho, Diana (Keith) Schneck of Las Vegas, Nevada and Linda (Jim) Grivet of Diamondville, Wyoming. Grandchildren include Chris (Sherry) Braun, Robert (Deb) Braun, Amy (Dan) Sorensen, Bret McBride, Brian (Laree) McBride, Scott McBride, Amanda (Jeff) Gibson, Matt Koster and Christina (Eric) Brunelle. Great Grandchildren are Michael Braun, Grant, Claire and AJ Braun, Kaylee McBride, Mika and Preston McBride, Griffin Gibson and Kate Sorensen.
Surviving brothers and sisters are Edgar Koster, Reverand Dale Koster, Urban (Pat) Koster, Jerome Koster, Alma (Ivan) Schroeder, Anita (Duane) Hannasch, Myrna (Van) Schmidt, Norma Jean Ludwig and Alice Thielen.
He was preceded in death by his wife Teresa, his parents Clem and Hazel Koster; and sisters: Helen Bertrand, Pearl Staiert and Elaine Bierl.
