Evelyn Schroeder, age 93, of Carroll, died Wednesday, June 8, 2011, at St. Anthony Nursing Home in Carroll.
Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m., Saturday, June 11, 2011 at St. Lawrence Church in Carroll. The Celebrant will be Fr. Timothy Schott. Music will by Marcy Anderson and the St. Lawrence Choir. Mass Servers will be Evelyn’s grandchildren: Ashley, Kelsey, and Mickayla Blum. Lector for the funeral mass will be Evelyn’s granddaughter, Jena Sherry. Gift Bearers will be Evelyn’s children: Bob Schroeder, Marlene Eich, and Judy Neuerburg. Eucharistic Ministers will be Evelyn’s daughter, Judy Neuerburg, and Evelyn’s son, Bob Schroeder and his wife Irene Schroeder. Casket Bearers will be Evelyn’s grandsons: Mark Schroeder, Doug Schroeder, and Greg Schroeder, and grandson’s in-law, Kraig Lux, Allan Sherry, and Ross Schuette. The St. Anthony Hospital Auxiliary will form an honor guard for the funeral mass. Burial will be at 12:30 p.m., Saturday at St. John’s Cemetery in Arcadia.
Friends may call at the Sharp Funeral Home in Carroll after 4:30 p.m. Friday, where there will be a rosary at 5 p.m., followed by a Christian Wake Service by St. Lawrence Parish at 7 p.m.

Born on June 17, 1917 at Arcadia, Iowa, Evelyn was the daughter of Ben and Anna (Beyerink) Niehaus. She spent her younger years in the Arcadia area and attended St. John School. Following her formal education she worked as a housekeeper in Carroll for several families. On February 1, 1937, Evelyn married Art Schroeder at St. Johns Church in Arcadia. The couple made their home on a farm east of Arcadia. Art died in March of 1952 and in 1965 Evelyn moved to Carroll. For nearly 30 years she worked for Dr. Rex Heese as a receptionist. Evelyn loved to work and also enjoyed crocheting, quilting, cooking, and was devoted to her family and her faith. She was a member of the St. Lawrence Parish, Parish Ladies Guild, and St. Anthony Hospital Auxiliary.
Survivors include her children: Bob Schroeder and his wife Irene of Arcadia, Marlene Eich and her husband Gene of Ankeny, and Judy Neuerburg and her husband John of Viroqua, Wisc; 10 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren, as well as other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Art in March, 1952; infant daughter, Norene; her granddaughter, Karla Primrose; grandson in-law, Les Blum; two sisters, Juletta Lammers, and Velma Schroeder, and one brother, Francis Niehaus.
