Elsie, the daughter of Matt and Philomena (Boes) Thelen, was born on December 11, 1927, in Breda, Iowa. She attended elementary school in Breda and graduated from St. Bernard’s High School.
On November 17, 1947, Elsie married Robert Hausman at St. Bernard’s Church in Breda. Together, they began their married life on a farm outside of Halbur, where they raised five children. Elsie cherished entertaining family and friends, golfing, playing cards, and traveling. Her greatest joy came from spending time with her family—playing games, sharing laughter, and creating lasting memories. Her beautiful laugh will be fondly remembered by all who knew her.
In 1989, Elsie and Robert moved to Carroll. After Robert’s passing in 1990, Elsie continued to embrace life with resilience and love for her family. She was an active member of Holy Spirit Church, where her faith played a vital role in her life.
Elsie is survived by her five children: Gary (Dorothy) Hausman of Hendersonville, North Carolina; Dan Hausman of Merritt Island, Florida; Vicki Keller of Carroll; Keith (Ruth) Hausman of Windsor Heights; and Randy (Raylene) Hausman of Lake City. She also leaves behind 12 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, three sisters: Myra Stangl of Carroll, Jan Overgaard of Hendersonville, North Carolina, and Nancy (Dave) Pudenz of Auburn; and two brothers: Alan (Louella) Thelen of Carroll and Wayne (Sarah) Thelen of Marble Falls, Texas.
Elsie was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Robert Hausman; her parents; Robert’s parents, Anne and Christ Hausman; her daughter-in-law, Colleen Hausman; and her siblings: Merlin, Roger, Lenus, Delmar Thelen, and Lois Vogt.
Elsie’s warmth, kindness, and joyful spirit touched the lives of many. Her family and friends will forever cherish the memories they shared with her.
