Elma Garbier, 95 of Carroll, died Monday, January 19, 2015 at St. Anthony Regional Hospital in Carroll.
Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, January 24, 2015 at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Carroll. The Celebrant will be Fr. Timothy Schott. Music will be by Marcy Anderson and the St. Lawrence Choir with Katie Kustra as cantor. Lectors for the funeral mass will be Luanne Kustra and Cindy Maturo. Gift Bearers will be: Jennifer Brown, Christine Leick, Beth Chapman, Alison True, and Anna Garbier. Eucharistic Ministers will be: Elma Heidemann, Mary Chapman, and Jennifer Brown. Honorary Casket Bearers will be: Gus Heidemann, Tom Lofboom, Art Chapman, Steve True, Greg Kustra, and John Kustra. Casket Bearers will be: Stephen Heidemann, Andrew Lofboom, Patrick Lofboom, Michael Lofboom, Ben True, Nate True, Alex Garbier, and James Garbier. Burial will be at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Carroll.
The St. Anthony Hospital Auxiliary will form an honor guard for the funeral mass.
Friends may call at the Sharp Funeral Home in Carroll after 4:30 p.m. on Friday where there will be a rosary at 5 p.m and a Christian Wake Service at 7 p.m. by St. Lawrence Parish.
The casket will be moved to St. Lawrence Church at 9 a.m. on Saturday where visitation will resume until time of the funeral mass.

Born on June 11, 1919 at Alcester, South Dakota, Elma was the daughter of Arlo and Lenna (Young) Swanson. She graduated from Alcester High School and later from Yankton College in Yankton, South Dakota in 1941.
On May 27, 1942 she was united in marriage to Stephen Andrew Garbier at Yankton, South Dakota. The couple moved to Carroll with their family from Sioux City in 1956. Both Elma and Steve were employed at Kuemper Catholic High School for many years, retiring together in 1980.
During her retirement years, Mrs. Garbier was involved in many organizations volunteering, and also active with St. Lawrence Parish as a Eucharistic Minister and Ladies Guild. She always loved teaching, reading, cooking and spending summer evenings on the patio visiting with family and her many friends.
Elma is survived by her children: Elma Heidemann and her husband Gus of Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, Anne Lofboom and her husband Tom of Stillwater, MN, Mary Chapman and her husband Art of Eagle Grove, Nancy True and her husband Steve of Wauwatosa, WI, and Steve Garbier and his wife Jean of Boston, MA; her grandchildren: Jennifer, Stephen (Elvira), Andrew, Christine (Chad), Patrick (Emily), Michael (Sarah), Jennifer, Elizabeth, Ben, Alison (Jaime), Nate, Alex, Anna, and James; her step-grandchildren: Lorie (Bob), Dave (Angie), and Chris (Rosita); and her great-grandchildren: Meredith, Mason, Willow, Charlie, and Bode; and her brother in-law, Wallace Patten of Sioux Falls, SD; as well as other extended relatives and many friends.
Her parents, and her husband Stephen, preceded her in death.
