Edwin Pudenz, age 95, of Carroll, died Friday, March 11, 2016 at St. Anthony Nursing Home in Carroll surrounded by his family.
Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday, March 14, 2016, at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Carroll. The Celebrant will be Fr. Timothy Johnson. Mass servers will be Ed’s great-grandchildren: Hannah Irlbeck, Emma Pinkelman and Tessa Pinkelman. Music will be by Barb McDermott and the Holy Spirit Choir. Lectors for the funeral mass will be Ed’s grandchildren, Renee Brincks and Nick Pudenz. Gift Bearers will be Ed’s grandchildren: Merry Lee Blair, Jodi Rupiper, Jenny Barthole, Ann Irlbeck, and Jason Pudenz. Eucharistic Ministers will be: Joy Pinkelman, Theresa Pudenz, and Rick Boes. Casket Bearers will be Ed’s grandchildren: Will Pudenz, Jeff Pudenz, Jill Dopheide, Todd Pudenz, Ryan Schwabe, Andy Pudenz, and Joey Pudenz. Burial will be at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Carroll with military honors conducted by the Carroll American Legion.
Friends may call at the Sharp Funeral Home in Carroll after 2 p.m. on Sunday, where there will be a Rosary prayed at 3 p.m. and a Christian Wake Service at 5 p.m.
The casket will be moved to Holy Spirit Church on Monday morning where visitation will resume at 9 a.m. and continue until the time of the funeral mass.

Born on August 6, 1920 at Carroll, Iowa, Edwin was the son of Frank and Mayme (Wiederin) Pudenz. He spent his younger years near Mt. Carmel and attended Our Lady of Mt. Carmel School. Ed served in the United States Army during World War II where he was stationed three years in the Aleutians Islands. Following his honorable discharge, Ed returned to the Carroll area.
On April 23, 1946 he was united in marriage to Leota Happe at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Carroll. The couple resided north of Mt. Carmel for a brief time before moving near Lidderdale where Ed was engaged in grain and livestock farming. In 1981, they moved to their home in Carroll. Ed enjoyed playing cards, especially pinochle and euchre. He had a love for the land and a passion for farming. His greatest joy was spending time with his family; especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Ed was a member of Holy Spirit Church in Carroll.
Survivors include his children: Rollie Pudenz and his wife Gayle of Plainview, NE, Allen Pudenz and his wife Nancy of Carroll, Tom Pudenz and his wife Joyce of Glidden, Mary Dopheide and her husband Gerald of Carroll, Mark Pudenz and his wife Connie of Carroll, and Carol Schwabe and her husband Dean of Carroll; 21 grandchildren; 41 great-grandchildren; his siblings: Wilma Boes of Breda, Edna Knobbe of Rose Creek, MN, Rita (John) Hoebing of Columbus, NE, Richard (Bea) Pudenz of Carroll, and Jim (Mary Ann) Pudenz of Carroll; his sisters-in-law: Clarise Pudenz of Carroll, Jean Pudenz of Des Moines, and Bernice Pudenz of Carroll; as well as other extended relatives and friends.
Ed was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Leota in 2014; his sisters: Julitta O’Tool and Dorothy O’Tool; his brothers: Wilbur Pudenz, Leonard Pudenz, LeRoy Pudenz and Herbert Pudenz; and a brother in infancy, Joseph Pudenz.
