Edwin Dopheide, 90 of Carroll, died Sunday, July 21, 2013 at Regency Park Nursing Home in Carroll.
Mass of the Christian Burial will be at 9:00 a.m. Saturday, July 27, 2013 at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Carroll. The Celebrant will be Fr. Timothy Schott. Music will be by Marcy Anderson and the St. Lawrence Choir with Jake Gute as song leader. Lector will be Edwin’s granddaughter, Lisa Mitchell. Gift bearers will be Edwin’s grandchildren: Austin Dopheide, Nick Lahr, Jenny Canavan and Kelsey Dopheide. Eucharistic Ministers will be Marilyn Dopheide, Vern Greving, and Lou Pottebaum. Casket bearers will be Edwin’s grandchildren: Heath Lahr, Amy Buelt, Jill Dopheide, Jason Dopheide, Scott Greving, and Melissa Dopheide. Honorary Casket Bearers will be Edwin’s grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Burial will be at Holy Angels Cemetery in Roselle.
Friends may call at the Sharp Funeral Home in Carroll after 2:30 p.m. on Friday where there will be a rosary at 3:00 p.m. by the Carroll Knights of Columbus and a Christian Wake Service by St. Lawrence Parish at 5:30 p.m.
The casket will be moved to St. Lawrence Church at 8:00 a.m. Saturday where visitation will resume until the time of the funeral mass.

Born on May 1, 1923 at Carroll, Iowa, Edwin T. Dopheide was the son of Barney and Johanna (Renze) Dopheide. He spent his younger years in the Roselle area and attended Holy Angels School. On April 29, 1947 he was united in marriage to Leona Tunning at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Dedham. The couple made their home south of Carroll on Highway 71 where he was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. Edwin enjoyed family gatherings, a good card game, horseshoes, polka music, old tractors and the machinery that went with it. In 2001 Edwin and Leona moved to their home in Carroll. Edwin was a member of the Carroll Knights of Columbus, St. Lawrence Parish, and formerly a member of Holy Angels Parish in Roselle.
Survivors include his children: Eugene Dopheide and special friend Elaine of Melbourne, Australia, Gerald (Mary) Dopheide of Carroll, Jim (Mary Lou) Dopheide of Carroll, Joan (Vern) Greving of Willey, Lois Dopheide of West Des Moines, Randy Dopheide and special friend Lori of Scranton, Patty (Larry) Lahr of Carroll, Daryl Dopheide of Carroll, and Linda Hagerty of Altoona; his daughter-in-law, Marilyn Dopheide of Roselle; 26 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; as well as many nieces, nephews, and other extended relatives.
Edwin was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Leona; his parents: Barney and Johanna Dopheide; his parents-in-law, Theodore and Anna Tunning; his son Ronald Dopheide; his sister Rose Rotert; and 4 siblings in infancy: Helen, Clem, Albert, and Joseph Dopheide.
