Edward Weitl, age 87, of Carroll, Iowa, died Saturday evening, March 14, 2009, at Regency Park Nursing Home in Carroll. Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 A.M., Tuesday, March 17, 2009, at St. Lawrence Church in Carroll. The Celebrant will be Father Timothy Schott. Lectors will be Loretta Childers, Christopher Childers, and Mary Jo MacDonald. Gift Bearers will be Christopher Childers, Janine Childers, and Charlie Childers. Mass Servers will be Cody Weitl, Collin Vetter, and Kolby Vetter. Eucharistic Ministers will be Terri Vetter, Tricia Wolterman, and Kenzie Weitl. Casket Bearers will be Christopher Childers, Charlie Childers, Marc Weitl, Dan Weitl, Jerry Weitl, Denny Vetter, and John Scott. Graveside Services will be held at 1:30 P.M. Tuesday at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Templeton. Friends may call at the Sharp Funeral Home in Carroll after 4:30 P.M. Monday. There will be a Christian wake service at 6:30 P.M. Monday by St. Lawrence Parish. In lieu of flowers memorials may be left at the funeral home or church for the Carroll office of Iowa Hospice. Mr. Weitl was born on June 5, 1921, at Templeton, Iowa, the son of George and Mary (Schreck) Weitl. He spent his younger years in the Templeton community and graduated from Sacred Heart High School. He then graduated from the Capital City Commercial College in Des Moines with a degree in accounting. Mr. Weitl began his career as an Assistant Accountant for Des Moines Transportation Company and then moved to Waterloo where he was employed by Takin Brothers Transportation and then as Comptroller for the Black Hawk Broadcasting Company and its subsidiaries until his retirement in 1984. On November 11, 1946, he was married to Frances Borowsky in Winnipeg, Canada. His wife died in January 1985 and Mr. Weitl moved to Carroll in 1990. He was a member of St. Lawrence Parish, National Association of Credit Managers, and National Association of Accountants. He enjoyed woodworking, reading, and politics. Survivors include his children, Phyllis Maximillian and her husband Daniel of Paris, France, Loretta Childers and her husband Gene “Jim” of Columbia City, Ind., and Gregory Weitl of South Whitley, Ind.; seven grandchildren, Christopher Childers, Charlie Childers and his wife Christina, Janine Childers, Chad Childers, Greg Weitl, Holly Weitl, and Brandy Weitl; four great grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Audrey Weitl of Carroll; nieces, Terri Vetter and her husband Denny, Linda Scott and her husband John, and Mary Jo MacDonald and her husband Bill; and nephews, Marc Weitl and his wife Denise, Dan Weitl and his wife Peg, and Jerry Weitl and his wife Kristy. He was also preceded in death by his parents; brothers, LaVerne Weitl, Floyd Weitl, and Wilbur Weitl, in infancy; his step-mother, Frances Schreck-Weitl; and step-brothers, Don Schreck and Doug Schreck.
