Dorothy Schleisman, age 88, of Carroll, Iowa, died Wednesday, June 24, 2009, at Regency Park Nursing Home in Carroll. Funeral Services will be held at 1:30 P.M., Tuesday, June 30, 2009, at the Sharp Funeral Home in Carroll. Officiating will be Father Timothy Schott, Pastor of St. Lawrence Parish in Carroll. Visitation will begin at noon on Tuesday at the Sharp Funeral Home. Burial will be at a later date at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific in Honolulu, Hawaii. Mrs. Schleisman was born on October 14, 1920, at Carroll, Iowa, the daughter of Anton T. and Katherine (Hunstock) Maystadt. She spent her younger years in the Carroll community and attended St. Lawrence School and Carroll High School. During World War II she was employed as a defense worker in Des Moines, Iowa. On August 14, 1945, she was married to Virgil L. Schleisman at St. Joseph Church in Carroll with Msgr. P.T. Lynch officiating. The couple resided in Yuba City, California, until retiring to Tahoe City, California. Mrs. Schleisman was a homemaker. She returned to Carroll in 2006 and made her home at Orchard View. She became a resident of Regency Park in November 2008. Mrs. Schleisman enjoyed her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, traveling, and gambling. Survivors include her son, Eugene Schleisman and his wife Barbara of Citrus Heights, Calif.; a daughter, Victoria Schleisman-Yuen and her husband Walter of Honolulu, Hawaii; a daughter-in-law, Lauren Winger of South Lake Tahoe, Calif.; six grandchildren, Heather Harris and her husband Mark, Andrew Schleisman and his wife Carrie, Maili Baca and her husband Alan, Mark Yuen, Chad Yuen, and Seth Schleisman; five great grandchildren; a brother, Robert Maystadt of Carroll; sister, Joan Schapman of Carroll; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Virgil Schleisman, in March 1989; her parents; a son, Dennis Schleisman; sister, Lillian Bernholtz; a brother, Kenneth Maystadt, in infancy; brothers-in-law, Laverne Bernholtz and Paul Schapman; and sister-in-law, Verna Maystadt.
