Dorothy Halbur, 84 of Carroll, died Thursday, May 01, 2014 at Regency Park Nursing Home in Carroll.
Mass of the Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 6, 2014 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Willey. The Celebrant will be Fr. Timothy Johnson. Con-Celebrants will be Fr. Gary Snyder and Fr. Matt Malek. Homilist will be Fr. Gary Snyder. Music will be by Barb Danner and the St. Mary’s Choir. Mass servers will be Michael and Jacob Schreck. Lector for the funeral mass will be Dr. Martin Halbur. Gift Bearers will be Chris Schultz, Ben Halbur, John Halbur, Leann Halbur, Andrea Argotsinger. Casket Bearers will be Dorothy’s nieces and nephews: Jane Mayer, Betsy Robbins, Tom Snyder, Jim Halbur, Allen Hansohn, and Ron Mayer. The Carroll Catholic Daughters of the Americas will form an honor guard for the funeral mass. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery at Willey.
Friends may call at the Sharp Funeral Home in Carroll after 4:30 p.m. on Monday where there will be a rosary by the Carroll Catholic Daughters of the Americas at 5 p.m. and a Christian Wake Service at 6:30 p.m.

Born on July 1, 1929 at rural Templeton, Iowa, Dorothy was the daughter of Frank and Theresa (Bluml) Mayer. She spent her younger years in the Templeton area and later attended Sts. Peter and Paul School. She later furthered her education and graduated with the first Adult Education Class in 1970. On April 19, 1949 she was united in marriage to Adrian Halbur at Sts. Peter and Paul Church in Carroll. The couple made their home west of Willey where Dorothy was a devoted homemaker and mother. She enjoyed crafts, bowling, cards, sewing, and most of all gardening. Dorothy was a member of St. Mary’s Parish, Parish Ladies Guild and Carroll Catholic Daughters of the Americas, and a longtime member of Carroll County Farm Bureau where she served as president.
Survivors include her children: Roger Halbur and wife Joan of Carroll, Teri West of Cedar Rapids, Neil Halbur of Chicago, IL, and Ann Halbur of Ft. Dodge; 5 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; her sister, Veronica Quandt of Lidderdale; her in-laws: Verna Mayer of Carroll, Lou (John) Saam of Midland, MI, Bill Hawver of Kansas City, MO, and Pat Halbur of Naperville, IL; as well as many nieces, nephews, and other extended relatives.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; husband Adrian in February of 1999; her sisters: Jean Hansohn, Agnes Snyder, Theresa Schaeffer, and Mary Mayer; and her brothers: Frank, Ben, Leo, Joe, and Paul Mayer.
