Donna Gehling, age 88, of Carroll, died Thursday, September 9, 2021 at St. Anthony Regional Hospital in Carroll.
Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, September 11, 2021 at St. Lawrence Church-St. John Paul II Parish in Carroll. The celebrant will be Fr. Timothy Schott. Music will be by Kathy Halbur and Kathleen Macke. Lector will be Cassie Esdohr. Gift Bearers will be Alyce Nieland and Paige Thomas. Eucharistic Minister will be Brian Baumhover. Honorary Casket Bearers will be Stuart Calvert, Sarah Hobson Calvert, Todd Williams, Laura Hobson, Chris Baker, Teresa Baker, Terri Jo Gehling, Dean Schnieder, Jennifer Schnieder, Alyce Nieland, Adam Thomas, Paige Thomas, and Cassie Esdohr. Casket Bearers will be Ted Gehling, Steven Gehling, Sam Gehling, Alex Gehling, Aaron Nieland, and Jacob Esdohr. Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Carroll.
Visitation will be held from 9:15 a.m. to 10:15 a.m. Saturday morning at the Church.

Donna, the daughter of Clayton and Mary (Nees) Daniel, was born on October 1, 1932 on the family farm south of Lidderdale, Iowa. She attended Holy Family School in Lidderdale and graduated from St. Angela’s Academy in Carroll.
On January 22, 1951 Donna was united in marriage to Vincent Gehling at Holy Family Catholic Church in Lidderdale. Donna and Vincent lived on a farm south of Halbur for many years. She was a devoted wife and mother. Donna enjoyed gardening and canning the bounty it created. She raised chickens, and gathered and cleaned the eggs to sell to the many customers that stopped by. She also delivered to the many Café’s in town. Donna enjoyed baking and decorating cakes for family special occasions. Donna was also an accomplished seamstress, which kept her busy. She loved to embroider items, which she gave to her children and grandchildren. After moving to Carroll in 1985 she enjoyed the neighborhood ladies’ coffee gatherings and games they played. In her spare time Donna often read story books. Donna was a member of St. Lawrence Church- St. John Paul II Parish.
Donna is survived by her daughter: Dr. Sandra (Daniel) Hobson of Des Moines; sons: Bruce (Denise) Gehling of Carroll, Brian (Jeanne) Gehling of Carroll, and Brent (Janis) Gehling of Manning; 12 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, and 1 step grandchild; her siblings: Joan (Jerry) Feeney of Council Bluffs, Larry (Rosie) Daniel of Lidderdale, Robert (Mary) Daniel of Gettysburg PA, Janice (Mike) Boes of Urbandale; her sister-in-law: Freda Barron of Niles, MI, as well as many nieces, nephews, and other extended family members.
Donna was preceded in death by her husband Vincent in 2003; a grandson, Nicholas; Parents: Clayton and Mary Daniel; parents-in-law: Theodore and Catherine Gehling; brothers: John and Roland (Marian) Daniel; and her brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Marie (Rod) Von Eschen, Anna (Herman) Rath, Lucille (James) Jackley, Frank (Norma Jean) Gehling, John (Marjorie) Gehling, Leonard (Irma) Gehling, Leo Gehling, Helen (Charles) Gray, and Bill Barron.
