Donald Neil, 94 of Carroll, died Saturday, February 4, 2012 at the Carroll Health Center Nursing Home.
A funeral mass will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, February 8, 2012 at St. Lawrence Church in Carroll. The Celebrant will be Fr. Timothy Schott. Music will be by Marcy Anderson and the St. Lawrence Choir. Song Leader for the mass will be Shari Schulte. Lector will be Jack Thein. Gift Bearers will be Don’s grandchildren: Sarah Dryden, Jennifer Franks, and Sean Hissong. Eucharistic Ministers will be: Jean Knobbe, Jack Thein, and Lorraine Danner. Inurnment will be at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Templeton with military honors conducted by the Carroll American Legion.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to mass time on Wednesday at the St. Lawrence Church.

Born on August 9, 1917 at St. Cloud, Minnesota, Donald Roy Neil was the son of Earl and Laura (Barnhart) Neil. He attended grade school and high school in St. Cloud and later attended the University of Minnesota where he received a degree in Fire Science. Don served in the United States Navy for 8 years during World War II, and was honorably discharged in 1945. He married Marcella Lang on November 28, 1950 at San Diego, California. Don and Marcella made their home in San Diego and Don was employed by the San Diego Fire Department where he was a Captain. In 1970 Don retired and they moved to Carroll. Don and Marcella lived in Spencer for a brief time before returning to Carroll. In retirement he enjoyed fishing, golfing, traveling, and camping. Don was an honorary member of the Templeton Fire Department, member of Carroll American Legion, Maurice Dunn Post # 7, and St. Lawrence Parish in Carroll.
Survivors include his children: Barbara Jones and her husband Jerry of Ojai, CA, Thomas Neil and his wife Julie of Apache Junction, AZ, and Jackie Dryden of Florence, AZ; 8 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; as well as other relatives and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Marcella in April of 2005; two sisters: Dorothy Minneci and Elayne Trebil; and three brothers: William, Ray, and John Neil.
